Many Residents Made Halloween Events A Success

Hello again, fellow Creekers.

The Christopher Creek Homeowners Association’s Kids Halloween Costume Party was held Oct. 23 at the Christopher/Kohl’s fire station. We had 51 kids in the costume contest and a few others who joined in for trick or treating on the wagons.

CCHA wishes to thank the fire department for all that they do for this event. Fire Chief Electra Van Eckhoutte led the wagons, Rick Schantz drove the second wagon and Trina and Doug rode drag and carried a couple of trick or treaters, too.

A big thank you to our CCHA members who restored the big wagon. President Ron and his wife Rhonda put new sides, floors, a gate that latches, and made a new cover for the wagon! Alex and Irma Armenta painted the wagon and new tires were donated by Gregg and Jane Kuntz! What great team effort!

Mike Jelinek, the new owner of Tall Pines Market and his staff of costumed workers Paula, Sheila and Priscilla handed out treats.

Some of those not on the trailer’s route came to hand out candy there as well. Gary and Cindi Werlinger were at their building in progress Landmark handing out treats. Ralph Christofferson was at the ERA Real Estate office with treats. We ended the wagon ride at Cindy Fitch’s Creekside restaurant, where Britany had the fire going and hot chocolate ready for the kids who were getting a little chilly. Jason Harris, the owner of Christopher Creek Lodge and Grey Hackle Lodge, donated candy to be handed out. A great big thank you to all our businesses from CCHA President Ron Louch and Secretary Judy Tolle.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped. Irma Armenta, Pat Oliver and Marty Bethancourt who served the hot dogs and chips. Pat Bailey, Kelly O’Neill and Gary Heyse who judged the costume contest; which is the toughest job of all! Genny Dodson loaned me her granddaughters, Ashley and Kaitlyn Dodson, to help with music and to lead the kids on parade. Thank you, Ashley and Kaitlyn, you were wonderful.

Thank you to our photographer John Mitchell who took the pictures of the kids. If you want to see them, they will be at

A big thank you to Brian Slaughter and Keith Zelinski who decorated and drove the big wagon. The trailer was really lit up this year! We can’t forget all the people who handed out candy. Thank you, thank you! Some people like John and Kathy who were wearing great costumes were at more than one place handing out candy! The route was changed this year, which worked much better and took us only one-and-a-half hours to complete. My apologies to those of you who did not hear about it!

The winners of the Halloween costume contest are by age group: (5 and under )first place, Occean Helmick, vampire, second place, Oceana Peru, witch, third place, Ashley Slaughter, Cinderella; (6 through 9) first place, Griffin Ross, pharoah, second place, Adelaide Cody, candy corn fair , third place, Savoi Castillo, gothic rag doll; (10 through 12) first place, Christopher Pulido, alien, second place, Ecko Helmick, cupcake, third place, Demi Gardenhire cheetah.
