A 30-14 loss to the homestanding Round Valley Elks in the first round of the 3A state playoffs eliminated the Payson Longhorns from post season play.
In the clash played Nov. 6 in Eagar, the Horns fell behind 10-0 with 44 seconds in the first quarter but rallied to take a 14-10 second quarter lead.
The Elks scored late in the stanza to lead 17-14 at halftime..
The second half was all Elks as RV dominated on both sides of the ball.
For RV, the victory was a bit of revenge for an earlier season 42-0 spanking by the Longhorns.
