The Rim Country Quilt Roundup, a regional quilt show with classes, is being held at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino Exhibition Hall Nov. 12 to Nov. 14. Friday and Saturday the show is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Sunday the hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The awards banquet will be held at the casino at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 13. Admission is $3 or $2 with a can/package of non-perishable food, and 12 and under are free.

Chili Supper tonight

The 14th Annual Chili Supper is tonight, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9 at the Elks Lodge, 1206 N. Beeline Highway.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Tickets will be available at the door.

The menu includes chili, macaroni and cheese, salad, rolls and homemade cupcakes along with drinks. Carry out is available for those who wish to return home to eat.

Make time to visit the boutique and check out the great Christmas gifts, all donated by our generous businesses and individuals of Payson and Rim Country.

Besides great food, there will be great entertainment by local blues band Blue Frog, raffles and more.

Hospice Compassus open house

Hospice Compassus is inviting residents of Payson and the Rim Country to visit its facility on Mud Springs Road as part of National Hospice Month.

The open house will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9 at Hospice House, 511 S. Mud Springs Road, Payson.

The event is to thank the community for its support over the 20 years Hospice has been active in the Rim Country.

Special parking for TCCA concert

Due to construction on the Payson High School campus, the west (McLane Road) and Wilson Dome (Wade Lane) parking lots are closed. Parking for the New Christy Minstrels concert Tuesday, Nov. 9 will be available at the north parking lots (auditorium and football field) on Longhorn Road. Shuttle service will be provided from Rim Country Middle School parking lot on Meadow St., the south (Payson Center for Success) parking lot on Wade Lane, and Rim Valley Church of God on McLane Road.

Shuttle service in Payson Schools white activity buses will begin at 6 p.m. and run approximately every 10 minutes. Shuttles will return patrons to their parking lots following the concert.

 Handicapped parking includes all spaces within the black fence next to the old Payson High School gym and just north of the auditorium. Vehicles must have a handicapped license plate or tag to enter and park in this area.

Veterans Day programs

Residents of Payson and the Rim Country are urged to take time out next week and participate in ceremonies to thank the area’s veterans.

There will be a flag ceremony at the Payson Pioneer Cemetery at 8 a.m., where Boy Scouts have placed flags on more than 200 graves.

The Town of Payson Veterans Day program is at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 11 at the Payson High School auditorium. There will also be a program at the Payson Elks Lodge later in the day.

Following the town’s program, a number of veterans will be treated to lunch at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino courtesy of the Rim Country Classic Auto Club.

The Elks program to raise funds for veterans starts at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 11 with a no-host bar, followed by a ceremony, buffet dinner, blind auction, raffles, including one for meat. Veterans will eat for free, the cost for everyone else is $6.50 per person.

Special Elks luncheon and bingo event

There will be a benefit lunch and special bingo game at the Payson Elks to raise money for the group’s annual holiday Children’s Shopping Spree.

The event is at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 11 at the Lodge, on the corner of Airport Road and Beeline Highway.

Lunch tickets must be purchased in advance, and cost $10 per person. The menu includes taco salad, ice cream, coffee or iced tea. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m.

Those interested only in bingo will be seated at 12:15 p.m. Bingo cards cost a minimum of $12 and may be purchased from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The game will begin at 1 p.m.

Group reservations are encouraged. A special section for members of the area’s Red Hat groups has already been set aside.

Community Breakfast

Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church is hosting a community breakfast from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., Friday, Nov. 12 at 507 W. Wade Lane. Breakfast includes scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, coffee and juice.

Rim Country residents and visitors are invited to join the congregation for food and fellowship. A free will offering will be accepted.

The church will host a breakfast on the second Friday of every month from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. For more information, call (928) 474-5440.

Order holiday wreaths

Buy a Christmas wreath and help feed Bella and the other rescued horses and burros at New Hope Equine Rescue.

Each decorated wreath, made with fresh evergreen boughs from Minnesota, comes with a hanger and, for each purchase, a tree will be planted.
