Kelly O’Neill came out on top of the Payson Niners’ Club Championship, which was held the first two weeks of October at the Payson Golf Course. O’Neill bested the rest of the field in the low gross contest by seven strokes. Finishing second behind O’Neill was Ann Adams, who was followed closely by Debbie Nichols and Mary Quigley who tied for third place.

Catherine Moyer, a new golfer with the Niners this season, received an award for “Most Improved Golfer” at the Niners’ end of the year luncheon.

The Niners were rained out the third week of October, but met on Oct. 28 for a best-ball scramble. The winning team was comprised of Nichols, Anne Alschuler, Donna Larson and Agnes Bowers. Two teams tied for second place, one anchored by O’Neill, whose foursome included Ce Ce McCain, Brookie Coleman and Dorothy Hardman. The other second-place foursome consisted of Adams, Flo Meuer, Billie Gibbs and Jil Coleman.

Adams won closest to the pin honors twice in October, while Anne Alschuler won closest to the pin during the month as well. O’Neill was also recognized as having chipped one in on #17 for a birdie. Larson and Alschuler also carded birdies during the month, while Quigley and Linda Teasley chipped in from off the green.

The Niners wrapped up their season with a family style banquet at Gerardo’s Italian Bistro, which was greatly enjoyed by those in attendance. Debbie Nichols, incoming president of the Niners, expressed the club’s appreciation to Kelly O’Neill for her service as club president by presenting her with a gift certificate.

The Niners will resume play in April of 2011. Any women interested in joining the league next year are encouraged to call Debbie at (928) 595-1176 or Ann at (928) 468-6686.
