Laura McCoy and John Stanton brought this quilt sewn by Laura’s grandmother from scraps of childhood clothing. The council declared November Quilt Month to help promote the Nov. 11-14 Quilt Roundup at the Mazatzal Casino. The event usually brings about 1,300 quilters to Rim Country, which already has some of the best known and respected quilters in the country.

Quilters, it’s time for the roundup — the big Rim Country Quilt Roundup

The quilting celebration enjoys its sixth anniversary this year, Nov. 11 through Nov. 14.

The exhibition and vendor booths are open Friday, Nov. 12 through Sunday, Nov. 14, with classes starting Thursday, Nov. 11. Once again, the festival of quilting will be held at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino in Payson.

While the deadline to register for quilt classes was back in October, there may be openings at some of the lectures.

Teachers participating this year are: Nancy Brenan Daniel, Lyn Mann, Gina Perkes, Sharon Schamber, J. Michelle Watts and Margaret Wood.

The will also be quilt appraisals by AQS Quilt Appraiser Nora Mohr on Nov. 13, 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments are required for appraisals; send a request to eputnam@npgcable.com. Appraisal fees are $45 payable to Nora Mohr. Appraisals are done for replacement purposes or fair market value.

In addition to the classes and appraisals, the Quilt Roundup will feature a tremendous display of beautiful quilts and the Hoffman Challenge Special Exhibit, plus there will be a vendor mall to stock up on supplies.

The exhibition is from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 12 and Saturday, Nov. 13, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 14. Admission is $3 per person, or $2 with a donation of non-perishable food for area food banks. Children 12 and under will be admitted free of charge.

An awards banquet will be held the evening of Saturday, Nov. 13.
