Glimpse your family’s past

In honor of Veteran’s Day, members of the Northern Gila County Genealogical Society, in connection with Ancestry.com, are available to help piece together a family’s history. Volunteers are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Thursday through Friday at 302 E. Bonita in Payson. The center is closed on holidays.

Ancestry.com is having a free access weekend from Nov. 11 through Nov. 14 in honor of the holiday.

Rim Country Quilt Roundup

The Rim Country Quilt Roundup, a regional quilt show with classes, is being held at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino Exhibition Hall Nov. 12 to Nov. 14. Friday and Saturday, the show is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Sunday the hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The awards banquet will be held at the casino at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 13.

Admission is $3 or $2 with a can/package of non-perishable food and 12 and under are free.

Order holiday wreaths

Buy a Christmas wreath and help feed Bella and the other rescued horses and burros at New Hope Equine Rescue.

Each decorated wreath, made with fresh evergreen boughs from Minnesota, comes with a hanger and, for each purchase, a tree will be planted.

Brush pit schedule

This coming weekend, the Regional Payson Area Project… for a Fire Wise Rim Country (RPAP) will be staffing free brush drop-off points at the following locations, weather permitting:

Saturday, Nov. 13 the Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Blattner Pit is located at Milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.

Sunday, Nov. 14 the Pine Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Pine Pit is located .7 of a mile east of Highway 87 on Control Road, south of Pine.

All RPAP free drop-off locations are for brush, leaves, pine needles, trimmings and other vegetative materials only. Properly bagged Yellow Starthistle, or other listed noxious weed species will also be accepted and will be burned. No household garbage, construction debris or other items will be accepted.

RPAP brush pits are intended for the use of private citizens who are working to clear their properties for wildfire risk reduction and to create defensible space around their homes. Use by commercial haulers is prohibited. 

High Country Holiday Bazaar

Get some holiday shopping done from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 13 at Julia Randall Elementary School, 902 W. Main St., Payson.

Choose from handmade art, crafts and even baked goods. Shoppers can also purchase a barbecue lunch and visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus and get free photos.

Wired for Success workshop

Are you raising or teaching children?  Attend the no-cost workshop “Wired for Success” sponsored by Arizona’s Children Association from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 13 at Mountain Bible Church, building C, 302 E. Rancho Road, Payson.

Elks Christmas Boutique

The public is invited to the Payson Elks Christmas Boutique which will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 13 on the corner of Beeline Highway and Airport Road. Come shop a wide variety of arts and craft items.

Then at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 14 he will perform at the Payson First Church of the Nazarene, 200 E. Tyler Parkway.

Community Vegetarian Luncheon

A Community Vegetarian Luncheon will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 13 at The Meeting Place, which is located at the corner of Phoenix Street and Highway 87, at the south end of town.

There is no cost and all are invited, but it is important to RSVP to Shirley at (928) 595-1528 as soon as possible so that there will be enough food (regular attendees need to RSVP, also).

Book signing

Katy Rovetto will be signing copies of her book, “Flying High: Soaring Above the Tragedies of Life” from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 13 at East West Exchange, 100 N. Tonto St., Suite 102, Payson.

Rovetto, a resident of Payson, has written about her life in “Flying High” hoping to offer inspiration to others.

Country Gospel Misfits perform in Star Valley

A concert by the Country Gospel Misfits is planned for 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 14 at Star Valley Baptist Church. The group offers old songs with country flair, plus original works.
