Taylor Swift’S New Album Quickly Tops Chart

The young lady is truly amazing!

Country/pop singer Taylor Swift released her brand new album just two weeks ago and it already has become the No. 1 selling album on Billboard’s Top 200 Album Chart.

With sales over 1 million in its debut week, Taylor’s third album joins only Britney Spears’ “Oops ... I Did It Again,” Whitney Houston’s “Bodyguard” soundtrack and Nora Jones’ “Feels Like Home” as one of only four albums by a female singer to achieve this feat.

In Taylor’s new 14-song album, she names names by singing songs about the leading men in her young life, to include Twilight’s Taylor Lautner, fellow musician John Mayer, and of course, her former flame, Joe Jonas. As with her previous two albums, the 20-year-old Taylor is the sole composer of all of the songs on her new album.

To me, it appears that Taylor’s success comes from her wide appeal to all age groups. The songs on her first two albums, “Taylor Swift” and “Fearless,” enjoyed overwhelming success on not only the U.S. country, pop and adult contemporary charts, but on many charts worldwide, as well.

At every event for which I play, when I put on any of Taylor’s songs, there are always young girls and young-at-heart grandmas singing along with her music.

What I think is really amazing is ALL 14 songs on the standard edition of Taylor’s new album have already charted on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, with 10 tracks debuting the week of the album’s release.

This week’s music trivia question is: Can you name the title of Taylor Swift’s brand new album?

Is the title A) “Speak Softly Love,” B) “I Let the Music Speak,” C) “Speak Now” or D) “We Don‘t Speak No Americano?”

This week, if you’re caller number six and have the right answer, you’ll win a CD of Taylor Swift’s new No. 1 album! Good luck!

(If you have never called in before, I encourage you to do so. You never know, your call might just be the right number!)

Now, let’s see how we did with last week’s trivia question, which was: can you name the English-born, Australia-raised singer who sang the 1981 song of the year, “Let’s Get Physical”?

Clue: In 1978, she starred, with John Travolta, in the hit movie, “Grease,” which included her hit songs, “Hopelessly Devoted To You” and her duets with Travolta, “You’re the One That I Want“ and “Summer Nights.”

Was this talented artist A) Olivia Newton-John, B) Petula Clark, C) Leslie Gore, or D) Lily Tomlin?

The correct answer was Olivia Newton-John, whose album cover, “Making A Good Thing Better,” beautifully adorns our home’s “Music ‘Wall’ of Fame.”

Petula Clark was popular singer who charted hits from 1964 to 1982.

Leslie Gore, a pop, girl-group singer during the 1960s, is probably best remembered for her 1963 No. 1 hit, “It’s My Party.”

Actress and comedian, Lily Tomlin, starred as the wisecracking, snorting telephone operator, Ernestine, in the 1970s TV hit show, “Laugh-In.” She also had a lead role, along with Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton and Dabney Coleman, in the 1980 hilarious comedy movie, “Nine to Five.”

Congratulations to last week’s music trivia winner, Macy Chernov, who won a CD of the soundtrack of the 1978 movie hit, “Grease”— which is simply “Electrifyin’!”

Macy is a regular caller and has been a music trivia winner several times over the last couple of years. She is now in the seventh-grade at Rim Country Middle School.

Lastly, new pictures that I’ve added to my Web site are from last Saturday’s Health & Care Fair, held at Payson High School. It was nice to see so many adults and children take advantage of the health testing and screenings, information and giveaways that the more than 40 health-related organizations offered at either free or greatly reduced prices.

I hope to see you at the Rim Country Quilt Roundup this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Mazatzal Casino. Elaine Putman, organizer of the event, recently told me, “This year’s show will be bigger and better than ever. In addition to the 115 quilts that will be on display, we have for the first time a national exhibit of 40 quilts.”

“Quilters from all over the country, as far away as Rhode Island, will be attending many of the quilting classes,” added Elaine.

Admission price is only $3, or $2 with a can of food for the food bank.

See you at the quilt show!
