Tonto Village is showing off its best colors this week. There are gold, brown and brilliant red leaves falling.
I noticed that the oak trees are almost in a line in the forest; when you see one with its brown and gold leaves, then about 100 yards away, there is another and another. I wonder why that is. Most of the trees are still holding on to their leaves although the wind on Monday took its toll and dropped the leaves to the ground, including the pine needles from our tall ponderosa pines. I would imagine that there will be many Villagers doing some serious raking this week. The Snyder family has done their share. I have blisters to prove it and my hubby Bill has a sore back. (He did more raking than I did!) There is something about walking through a pile of leaves and hearing them rustle that gets to you.
Ode to Libby
As I mentioned last week, we lost our precious beagle, Libby. My very good friend and neighbor also had special feelings for Libby. Pam Furubotten wrote an ode that I would like to share with you.
“Our precious beagle has left us and gone to ‘Doggie Heaven’ where she is romping with all her friends who have gone before. There is nothing on this earth to compare with the love and devotion Libby has given us for so many years. Her faithfulness will forever be remembered. We will miss her. Thank you God for giving her to us.”
Thank you, Pam, for your support to Bill and I on our loss.
Hellsgate Fire Department
The “Friends and Family” CPR class is filling up. The instructor for the class, Karen Carlen mentioned to me on Monday that there are still a few openings for anyone around the Tonto Village area who would like to take this course. You may be able to help save a life with this knowledge. Please call Karen at the Star Valley fire station now. The number is (928) 474-3835. The date is Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m. at the Tonto Village station.
Reminder: The Hellsgate administration office will be closed on Nov. 25 and 26 for the Thanksgiving holiday. If you have an emergency, please call 911.
Pete Koutz of Tonto Village I recently had surgery. He is now at home recovering. May the sunshine on your speedy recovery and that we see you riding around the Village on your quad real soon.
Pastor James and Bernita Barker will celebrate their anniversary on Nov. 22. Pastor Barker has been the pastor of the Tonto Village Chapel for a number of years. Your life together is an inspiration. Happy anniversary.
Jerry and Kay King of Tonto Village III will celebrate their years together on Nov. 23. Celebrate the special love you share.
Payson mayor Kenny Evans will celebrate his birthday on Nov. 17. I knew Mayor Evans in Yuma and he was a great asset to the community, as he is for the town of Payson.
On Nov. 19, Tonto Village III resident Maurine Kirchhoefer will add another candle to her birthday cake. Maurine is actively involved in the Hellsgate Fireflies Auxiliary, the Domino Divas and a faithful member of the LDS Church in Christopher Creek, besides having many grandchildren and great-grandchildren to fuss over. Many happy returns, Maurine.
On Nov. 21, Jimmy “Rabbit” Stephenson of Mead Ranch will add another candle to his birthday cake.
Hellsgate firefighters George Karrys adds another candle to his cake on Nov. 21 and David Wells’ big day is Nov. 29. Have a great day and keep the fire extinguisher handy! We don’t want all those candles to become a fire hazard!
