Be a part of the Town of Payson Electric Light Parade at 6 p.m., Saturday Dec. 4. The entry deadline is Friday, Nov. 19 and the fee is only $10 in celebration of the event’s 10th year. Application forms are online at www.paysonrimcountry.com or contact (928) 978-2538 or (602) 469-2611.

The Payson Unified School District will hold a meeting to update employees and the public on the ongoing state budget crisis at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 16 at the Payson High School Auditorium.

Information to be shared is based on data from the governor’s office and the legislative budget committee. It will include current budget realities, dropping enrollment, budget for this year, as well as the outlook for fiscal year 2012. 

Open Meeting Law training

Arizona requires “[a] person elected or appointed to a public body shall review the open meeting law materials at least one day before the day that person takes office”  [A.R.S. § 38-431.01(G)]. The Gila County Attorney’s Office will provide Open Meeting Law training to help newly elected and appointed public officials satisfy this new requirement.

Training is at the Payson Gila Community College Campus, 201 N. Mud Springs Road in Rooms 405-406 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 17 and in Room 111 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Thursday, Nov. 18.

Please RSVP to Sharon Listiak at the Gila County Attorney’s Office at (928) 402-8841 or e-mail slistiak@co.gila.az.us in order to reserve a seat at one of these training sessions and to ensure that sufficient training materials can be prepared.

While the training is open to anyone, preference will be given to newly elected and appointed public officials.

Payson schools have half-day

Payson Unified School District will observe a half-day in service day on Wednesday, Nov. 17.

Julia Randall, Payson and Frontier Elementary Schools dismiss at 11:45 a.m. Lunch will be served to students before they depart.

Rim Country Middle School dismisses at 12:30 p.m. after serving lunch.

Payson High School dismisses at 12:05 p.m. without serving lunch, followed by a brief, optional club period.

The RCMS/PHS buses depart from the schools at 12:35 p.m.

Payson Center for Success High School does not observe the half-day in services and will operate on its regular schedule.

Movie madness in Pine

The Isabelle Hunt Memorial Public Library in Pine will host a movie madness event at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 17, which is an early dismissal day for the students at Pine-Strawberry Elementary School. The featured movie will be G-rated Ramona and Beezus.

Trip tickets drawn Nov. 17

There is still time to get tickets for a chance at a Cancun vacation plus $1,000 cash, along with cash prizes of $300 and $100. The drawing will be at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 17 at Famous Sam’s.

The Kiwanis Young Professionals Club of Payson is selling just 200 tickets at $50 per ticket. The proceeds will help the group pay for dental services from Dr. Kristen Wade of High Desert Dentistry for children in need.

Scrub sale

Apparel Pro Health Care Wear will be having a Scrub Sale in the Payson Regional Medical Center west lobby from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 18.  

All monies raised will help to fund the many programs and scholarships available to our community through the Mogollon Health Alliance. For more information, call (928) 472-2588.

The Mogollon Health Alliance Auxiliary will have an Arts & Crafts Sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 18, Friday, Nov. 19, and Saturday, Nov. 20 at the Activity Center, 306 E Aero Dr. (next to the Almost New Shop). 

There will also be tables with Christmas merchandise and jewelry at the Payson Regional Medical Center main lobby from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 18 and Friday, Nov. 19.

Proceeds from the sale will go to support the many programs and scholarships offered by the Mogollon Health Alliance. For more information, call (928) 472-2588.

Free clothing for children

Kaitie’s Closet will be distributing free clothing for children from 2:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 at Julia Randall Elementary School, 902 W. Main St. Everyone needing children’s clothing in Rim Country is welcome.

Kaitie’s Closet is a nonprofit organization that collects clothese for distribution free to Rim Country residents in need.

Nov. 19 Friday

Cardinals tickets raffle

Would you like a chance to win four tickets to see an Arizona Cardinals game in Glendale? The Humane Society of Central Arizona has received a basketful of Cardinals goodies, generously donated by Jim and Sue Lewin of Lewin & Associates, LLC.

The basket, worth more than $250, contains four Section 403 tickets to the Sunday, Dec. 5 game with the St. Louis Rams, a blue lot parking pass, plus official NFL Cardinals team logo items including four ball caps, four can cozies and a game day tote bag. Also included are assorted snacks for your tailgating enjoyment.

Raffle tickets are $25 and the winner will be drawn on Friday, Nov. 19 at the Humane Society Thrift Shop, 404 W. Main St. Only 100 tickets will be sold and you need not be present to win.
