Brrr! It was pretty chilly in the Village this week. This past Tuesday was the coldest so far, at 12 degrees in the morning. There was definitely a hard frost, the ground looked as if it had snowed. Keep warm, everybody, winter is on the way.
The rain that fell on Sunday was what the forest needed. The Village received three-quarters of an inch of moisture, according to my neighbor, Linda Stailey. She has a pretty accurate rain gauge.
Let the shopping begin.
Today is Black Friday. Why they say black is beyond me. The name should be Green Friday, so many shoppers get up before the crack of dawn and hit the stores for all the fabulous sales. Some will be heading for the Valley shops and some will stay right here in Payson.
It would be wonderful if we had some of the bigger stores closer to us.
Since it is also the day after the big feast of turkey and all the trimmings, the microwave will be going full bore heating up leftovers.
My husband and I were invited to Mary and Denny Kindler’s house in Bear Flat. They are such gracious hosts, we always enjoy going to their home. Thank you, Mary and Denny for a wonderful day.
The Hellsgate Fireflies Auxiliary and the Domino Divas will be hosting a combined Christmas party on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at the Tonto Village Fire Station meeting room. The party will begin at 1 p.m. Please bring a gift to exchange and a covered dish for about a dozen gals.
A special thank you to Firefly Joan Norem for unselfishly giving up her time and her machine to shampoo the meeting room carpet. The gals had discussed having the carpet cleaned and had not finalized the decision. Joan then decided to use her machine to get the job done. A huge thank you, Joan.
The Fireflies are sponsoring a canned food drive for the St. Vincent dePaul Society. The food drive will continue into December and the donated food will be given to them just before Christmas. Your support will be greatly appreciated. The boxes are at the Tonto Village Fire Station on Mathews Lane and the Star Valley Fire Station on Walters Lane. Donations will be accepted Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The December Hellsgate Fire Board meeting will be held Wednesday, Dec. 8 at the Star Valley Fire Station beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Richard Pinkerton and Charlie Conover are the newly elected members of the fire board and will be introduced to the public at that time. The meetings are always open to the public.
Nov. 28 is a big day for Jeff Leonard of Tonto Village III. Jeff is our resident Forest Service person in the Village. Have a great day, Jeff. Pamela Furubotten claims Nov. 29 for her birthday. Pam is an avid knitter, a dog lover, and loves the outdoors, as well as being an active member of the Fireflies, and was just appointed as the new chaplain. Pam is also a member of the Tonto Village Chapel. Needless to say, grass does not grow under this gal’s feet. Have a blessed birthday, dear friend.
The Double D nine-ball players got together this past Tuesday evening for their weekly competition. The winners were Kara Shaw, Sherri Moore and Ethel Cain.
