What? Oct. 1 already? Where did September go? Granted, it was a bit busy in the Village this past month, but wait, I am not ready for winter. I do love the colors of October though. Nature shows off her myriad of colors for the fall season, and this upcoming fall reminds me of when we fell in love with the area about 20 years ago.
The quad run that started in Star Valley at the Spur Bar and ended at the Double D Restaurant and Bar in the Village had three groups of quads participate in the run through Paiute Draw. Danny Cain, Ray Schultz and Darren Hopely were a few of the local riders who rode from our area.
There was also a wedding in the Village this past Saturday. Rebecca Silver and Joshua Sampson tied the knot with Rebecca’s mother Elizabeth Fowler and Joshua’s mother Deborah Sampson in attendance as their children said their vows to each other. Happy wedding wishes to the newlyweds. Here’s wishing you both an eternity of wedded bliss.
Hellsgate Fire Department
The monthly meeting of the Hellsgate Fire Board will be at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 13 at the fire station in Star Valley.
There will be two vacancies to be filled on the board this coming election on Tuesday, Nov. 2. There are three possible candidates for the two positions. They are: Richard Pinkerton, Charles Conover and Phon Sutton. A thumbnail description of their experience and background will be included in my column in the next few weeks.
The Hellsgate bobcat is now repaired and clearing of brush can be started again for the residents who have brush piled up and ready to be moved.
Bids will be taken for a 90-10 grant project for the Diamond Point Summer Homes area for the clearing of trees and brush for the firewise program. The bidders need to be licensed and bonded contractors. The bids need to be in the Hellsgate Fire Station in Star Valley by 4 p.m. Oct. 4. If you need more information, please call the fire station at (928) 474-3835.
Karen Carlen, administrative assistant to the fire department is also a member of the Payson Fan Club for the Payson Longhorns football team. This Friday, the game will be a “Salute to Veterans” night. A canned food drive will also be held, collecting food for the Homeless Veterans Shelter. Admission will be free to the veterans who show some identification of military affiliation. I would guess that there are many veterans who live in Tonto Village and would be happy to support their comrades. Call Karen for more details at the fire station.
Birthdays and anniversaries
Mitzi and Matt Brabb of Tonto Village III will be celebrating eight years of wedded bliss on Oct. 5. Celebrate the special love you share with each other. Happy anniversary.
The birthdays this week include Karen Carlen of the Hellsgate Fire Department on Oct. 7, Judie Desrochers of Tonto Village III on Oct. 8, and Angie Lecher of Hellsgate Fire Department on Oct. 9. Happy birthday to you and savor each day for the gift that it is.

Walk for Cystic Fibrosis
This event has not been widely known about, except for an announcement on KMOG radio. I will be attending this walk with a few friends in commemoration of my grandson-in-law who passed away a few months ago from this terrible disease.
The event will be held Saturday, Oct 2 at Rumsey Park. Starting time will be at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. until noon. The walk will be around the lake. Safeway is supplying the water and a free breakfast for the walkers. There will also be door prizes for the lucky ticket holders at the end of the walk. For more information, please contact Jane Henderson at (928) 600-3486. Hope to see you there.
