The Payson Women’s Golf Association had a light month of play in September, except for a few out of town tournaments.

There were eight Payson women participating in the Northern Arizona Women’s Golf Association partners tournament, which was held in Flagstaff.

Karen Peterson and Shari Cody took second low gross in the top flight and were within just one stroke from winning the tournament. Joyce Goff and Kay Davis placed in the fourth flight with a tie for second place in low net score.

Other events for the month included weekly play days. These were a T and F game where players only counted the score of the holes that began with T or F. A flight winner was Judy McFall and B flight winner was Alesha Calderwood.

A Tee to Green game was played in the middle of the month with Shari Cody taking the win.

A Three Blind Mice game was held the third week. There was a tie for the win between Marilyn Schall and Jeannie Griffin.

The last day of the month was the Stableford Game. A flight winner was Lois Judd; B flight winner was Kelly O’Neill; and C flight was Kay Davis.

Closest-to-the-pin winners for the month of September included Griffin (two times), Goff, Peterson and Cody.

The PWGA began its Club Championship Monday, Oct. 4, continuing today, Tuesday, Oct. 5 and the next week on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

All month the PWGA members will also compete in a Turkey Shoot tournament.

There is a Buck and Doe tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 6 with the members of the Payson Men’s Golf Association.

The club season closes on Oct. 28 with a modified Ryder Cup play day.

The theme this year is Mad Hatter. A luncheon will be held afterward.
