The members of the Pine-Strawberry Arts and Crafts Guild will be holding a very unique “community yard sale” in Pine tomorrow, Oct. 9 under the ramada in the center of town. In addition to the usual household items, hunting and fishing gear, and garden tools, the guild will be selling beautiful art pieces, paintings, and craft items as well — all for great prices. The sale begins at 7 a.m. and should run until about 3 p.m.
Since the Second Saturday Shop Hop also takes place tomorrow, why not stop by one of Pine’s many fine restaurants between the two events. The Shop Hop begins at 4 p.m. and most of Pine’s antique and specialty stores participate. It’s a beautiful time of year in Pine, so come take advantage of the great prices, refreshments, and entertainment.
The members of the Pine Strawberry Riff Raff Club are busy selling tickets for their upcoming Rifle Raffle. Each year the raffle gets more popular, and bigger — for good reason, the prizes are top of the line. Your ticket may win you a Remington 600 Rifle with scope, a Winchester 12 gauge shotgun, a Taurus 347 Magnum, or maybe a load of gravel from Payson Concrete, a stay at the Rimside Cabins or the Windmill Corners, or a variety of gift cards for local businesses and restaurants.
When you support the Riff Raff Club, you are really supporting your neighbors in Pine and Strawberry, because all of the funds that are raised stay right here in our communities. For instance, last year the club donated 11 bountiful food baskets to local churches for distribution to folks who needed a helping hand. During the Christmas holiday, the club also gave funds to help support the children’s GIFT program through the Pine-Strawberry Food Bank, as well as the Isabelle Hunt Memorial Public Library’s expansion fund.
Tickets can be purchased from any Riff Raff Club member or by calling Dee at (623) 910-8233. The price of the tickets is only $1 each or $5 for six tickets. The drawing will take place at the Sidewinders Saloon on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 3 p.m. and winners need not be present to win. Sidewinders will be offering delicious pulled pork sandwiches for the event and Brian Higgins will provide entertainment beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The Riff Raff Club will also be holding a separate raffle for a 1988 Chevy Suburban 4x4 to support a new program to benefit a deserving student from our area. The Pine-Strawberry Memorial Scholarship Raffle will offer a $1,000 scholarship to an outstanding Pine or Strawberry student to help further their education. Only 500 tickets will be sold for $5 each and the drawing will take place Oct. 17 immediately following the Rifle Raffle. Tickets for the Suburban may be obtained from any club member or by calling Bowie at (928) 517-1107, or Joy at (928) 978-3337.
The Justice McNeeley Foundation’s 2010 Quad Run is fast approaching. This year’s event begins on Saturday, Oct. 16, with a $3.99 breakfast special at the Rimside Grill between 7 and 9 a.m. Registration for the run begins at 9a.m. with departure scheduled at 10 a.m.
The horseshoe tournament starts at 1 p.m. along with live music from the Whiskey Creek Band who will be playing throughout the afternoon. The live auction will commence at 3 p.m. and continue until 6 p.m. with lots of great items to bid on. You may also purchase raffle tickets for a variety of wonderful items.
All proceeds from the auction and raffle sales are donated to the Justice McNeeley Foundation which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting folks with children who have medical needs or expenses not covered by insurance. If you have questions about the foundation, call (928) 476-4416.
