Editor:

I have great news! We, the members of Kiwanis, Optimist and Rotary Clubs along with Payson High School Drama Club and Student Government (STUGO) are sponsoring the third annual Lip Sync Contest for high school students on Feb. 27, 2011 at Payson High School. The Lip Sync Contest is open to all high school students from Payson, surrounding communities as well as private, charter or home-schooled students. Once again there will be $1,000 in prize money awarded. In addition to the winners from our panel of judges, random selection of audience members will also select someone to win one a prize.

Why am I writing about a February event now? Students will require time to research their song choice, plan their act and rehearse. We also want our attendees to have advance notice so they can plan to attend. Now is the time for high school students to sign up. Now is the time for our potential audience to put Feb. 26 on their calendar. I promise you a fun evening watching the competition, bidding on the even bigger and better silent auction items and buying 50-50 tickets. The proceeds from the Lip Sync Concert will be used for scholarships.

The first Lip Sync had 300-plus attend and during the second year the audience grew to over 600. That should tell you that Payson’s word of mouth has been at work. That also means tickets will go fast, so get them early.

If you would like to make a monetary or silent auction contribution to support information or wish to purchase tickets, when available, please contact Joan Young, PR for Rim Country Optimist Club at 472-2264.
