Readers Share Resources To Address Noise Pollution

Hello again, fellow Creekers.

I got a lot of e-mails and letters regarding my last article, which was primarily about noise from modified motorcycles rumbling the whole area.

Everyone who wrote to me let me know in various terms that they deeply value the peace and quiet that is Christopher Creek.

Some folks offered suggestions as to what they were planning to do and what resources they had found.

Many others wanted to know what they could do. So, I thought it would be the right thing to do to take a moment and share a few of the more popular resources that came in: http://www.noiseoff.org/motorcycles.php.

To instill a noise ordinance law contact Gila County Community Development Director Bob Gould at (928) 425-3231, the ADOT contact: Noise Pollution Coordinator at (602) 712-7767 and the EPA Web site is http://www.epa.gov/air/noise.html.

While we’re still on the topic of motorcycle riding, Arizona has a rather famous motorcycle rider (although her bike is not modified and runs very quiet). Her name is Mary Peters.

Mary E. Peters, born Dec. 4, 1948, served as the United States Secretary of Transportation under President George W. Bush from 2006 to 2009. She is the second woman and first Arizonan to hold the position. She started work with ADOT in 1985 as an entry-level file clerk and worked her way up to eventually be appointed by Governor Hull as ADOT’s director. At age 62, I understand she is still an avid rider.

As always, I do need your help with content and stories! For anyone wanting to submit information from the Christopher Creek area for inclusion in our weekly article, please e-mail me at: info@christophercreeklodge.com. Any submitted pictures must be full-size (typically around 1MB per picture). The cutoff time for inclusion in Friday’s article is close of business on Monday.

Thanks again for reading the column.
