The Payson Longhorns kept their post season hopes alive Friday evening in PHS stadium with a convincing 54-0 pounding of the Alchesay Falcons.

The win, which was chalked up on a festive Senior Night, upped the Horns season record to 5-4 and East slate to 2-2.

The victory also ended the Horns three game losing streak.

While the game was crucial for Longhorn faithful, most eyes in the state were focused on Lakeside where two undefeated teams, Blue Ridge and Show Low, clashed in what could be a preview of the state championship showdown.

Before an estimated crowd of 10,000 fans, the top ranked Yellow Jackets ran past the second ranked cats 36-18.

See the Oct. 26 edition of the Payson Roundup for complete game coverage.
