Halloween events are planned throughout the Rim Country beginning Thursday, Oct. 28 at the Payson Public Library with a children’s costume contest. There are lots of activities planned Friday, Oct. 29 and Saturday, Oct. 30 in both Pine and Payson. See a listing of area events on page 4B.

Early voting in Pine

The Gila County Recorder’s Office will be conducting early voting for the upcoming Nov. 2 general election at the Pine-Strawberry Baptist Church from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 26.

Early voting started Thursday, Oct. 7 and ends Friday, Oct. 29. The last day to request a ballot by mail is Friday, Oct. 22.

Dutch oven cooking deadline

There is still time to sign up for the next Dutch oven cooking class offered by the Payson Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department.

The deadline to register is Tuesday, Oct. 26. The class will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 6 at Rumsey Park Ramada 4. Participants must be at least 16. The cost is $40 per person and loaner ovens will be available.

If not enough people register, the class will be canceled.

Oct. 27 Wednesday

• Half-day at Payson Schools: Elementary schools dismiss at 11:45 a.m., middle and high schools out at 12:30 p.m.

Pine Thrift Store sale

The Pine/Strawberry Thrift Store, 3916 N. Highway 87, Pine, will have ladies’ jeans and slacks on sale at 3 for $1 Wednesday, Oct. 27 through Saturday, Oct. 30.

Lamps and kitchen plastics will be half off the marked prices.

The store is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday.

Payson schools have half day

Payson Unified School District 10 will observe a half-day in service Wednesday, Oct. 27.

Julia Randall, Payson and Frontier Elementary Schools dismiss at 11:45 a.m. Lunch will be served to students before they depart. Rim Country Middle School dismisses at 12:30 p.m. after serving lunch. Payson High School dismisses at 12:05 p.m. without serving lunch, followed by a brief, optional club period.

The RCMS/PHS buses depart from the schools at 12:35 p.m.

Payson Center for Success High School does not observe the half-day in services and will operate on its regular schedule.

Oct. 28 Thursday

Fudge and salsa sale

A large selection of The Salsa King’s award-winning salsa and America’s best fudge will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28 at the Payson Regional Medical Center lobby.

Proceeds will benefit the many programs and scholarships available to the community through the Mogollon Health Alliance.  For more information, call (928) 472-2588.

Business Buzz

Gila County Manager Don McDaniel will be the guest speaker at the Business Buzz meeting at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 28 at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260.

Payson Little League board meeting

An election of board members for the Payson Little League will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28 in the Julia Randall Elementary library. Officers will serve for the 2010-2011 year.

Anyone interested in being on the board is urged to attend. All positions are open.

‘Talent for Talents’ dinner theatre

The Community Presbyterian Church will have a dinner theatre presentation at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 29.

Enjoy fine Italian dining with wine and dessert, plus entertainment by members and friends of the church. Seating is limited and no tickets will be sold at the door.
