The Payson Longhorns cranked up all the offense they could muster but it came up a tad short in a regular season ending 45-41 loss to the state second-ranked Show Low Cougars Friday evening in Show Low.

The Horns led 41-38 with 4:06 remaining in the game but couldn’t hold on as the Cougars scored late to take the three point victory.

Show Low led 25-20 at halftime but Payson built a 34-32 lead late in the third quarter. The loss wraps up the regular season for the Horns (5-5).

In the playoffs, Payson will square off in the first round against the Round Valley Elks. Payson enters the playoffs, to begin Nov. 6, as a No. 11 seed. Round Valley takes a No. 6 seed to the playoffs. The first round game will be played in Eagar.
