The Northern Gila County Fair is coming up Sept. 10 through Sept. 12 and, although it is held in Payson, its roots are deep in Pine where, according to a close friend of mine, her daughters used to show their pigs under the old ramada.
The towns of Pine and Strawberry will be well represented as residents show their livestock, vegetables, handcrafts, baking, art, photography and much more. This year, the entire event will be held at the Payson Event Center (west of Mazatzal Hotel & Casino) so be sure to come support those who have entered various items.
You can view the exhibits beginning at 9 a.m., Friday, Sept. 10. There will be a llama show from 10 a.m. until noon, and the popular livestock judging begins at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 11, the exhibits will be open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., the 4-H horse show takes place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The livestock dinner for buyers takes place at 4 p.m. and the “can’t miss” livestock auction begins at 6 p.m. Admission is free on both Friday and Saturday.
On Sunday, come view the exhibits and catch the Demolition Derby which begins at noon. The cost is only $10 for adults, $5 for children, and free for those who are 3 years old and under.
