Blasting Schedule For Highway 260, East Of Payson

Road closure Monday and Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Construction is moving forward to widen state Highway 260, 15 miles east of Payson. Next week, drivers will need to plan ahead as work crews perform blasting activities as part of the project.

The Arizona Department of Transportation will close a two-mile segment of the highway for 45 minutes beginning at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept 13, and Wednesday, Sept. 15.

Eastbound traffic will be stopped at milepost 265 and westbound traffic will be stopped at milepost 267. The roadway will be closed while workers blast and clear material to provide room to widen the highway.

ADOT advises drivers to plan ahead to make their way through the work zone before 2 p.m. or after 3 p.m. to avoid delays. This project, which will upgrade the two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided highway, is scheduled for completion in fall 2011.

Information regarding the project is available on the toll-free project hotline at 1-877-521-1118. Weekly construction e-updates are available at prescottdistrictupdates@

As always, drivers are reminded to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
