Tonto National Forest is joining with other agencies included under the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (FLREA) in hosting a “no fee” day, Sept. 25, in observance of National Public Lands Day.

No Tonto Passes will be required Saturday, Sept. 25, except at the following concessionaire-operated campgrounds in the Tonto National Forest: Ponderosa Campground, Sharp Creek Campground, Christopher Creek Campground, Christopher Creek Group Campground, Upper Tonto Campground, Houston Mesa Campground and Houston Mesa Horse Campground.

During all other times, the Tonto Pass is required at more than 50 recreation sites including Salt River and Verde River locations, boat launch ramps, swimming areas and campgrounds.

A list of Tonto Pass vendor locations is available at the Tonto National Forest Web site, www.fs.fed.us/r3/tonto/, or call the Tonto National Forest at (602) 225-5200.

The final no fee day of the year will be Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day.
