Airline Boulevard Closed Traffic Switch – Airport Road Reopens

ADOT will close Airline Boulevard at the intersection of SR 87 on Thursday, September 30 at 6 a.m. to provide a safe work zone as crews begin excavation of the roadway and sidewalk on the east side of the project. Airline Boulevard is scheduled to remain closed until 12 noon on Friday, October 15.

During the Airline Boulevard closure, motorists can access residential and business properties via a clearly marked detour on the north and south boundaries of the project work zone. The detour will direct motorists from Glade Lane and Rancho Road for access to Airline Boulevard.

Traffic Switch – Airport Road Reopens

ADOT crews will reopen Airport Road at the intersection of SR 87 on Thursday, September 30 at 6 a.m. Once Airport Road is reopened, southbound traffic will be switched onto the newly paved surface of the roundabout. Temporary signage and striping will guide traffic through the new construction route. Two lanes of traffic on SR 87 are scheduled to remain open during construction in both the north and southbound direction of the highway. The speed limit is reduced to 25 miles per hour and will be strictly enforced.

Left Turn Restrictions

Northbound traffic on SR 87 will not be able to make left turns at Airport Road between the hours of 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. This restriction is anticipated to remain in place until the completion of the roundabout. In addition, southbound traffic on SR 87 will not be permitted to turn left at Rancho Road and traffic from Airport Road will not be able to turn left to access northbound SR 87.

As always, drivers are reminded to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
