Tcca Wins 2011 Governor's Arts Award


The Tonto Community Concert Association won the 2011 Governor’s Arts Award for Arts in Education Organization in ceremonies April 12 at the Herberger Theater in Phoenix.

The TCCA was pitted against nine other nominees for the prestigious award. Also nominated for the Arts in Education Organization award were the Arizona School for the Arts, Phoenix; The Bead Museum, Glendale; EPIK Dance Company, Phoenix; Marshall Magnet Elementary School, Flagstaff; Prescott Arts Docents, Prescott; Sonoran Glass Art Academy, Tucson; Superstition Review, Mesa; Tri-City College Prep High School, Prescott; and Washington Elementary School District, Glendale.

This is the 30th year the Arizona Governor’s Arts Awards have been presented, but this is the first nomination and award received by the TCCA.

The award, a sculpture by Patricia Sannit is scheduled to make its Payson debut at the 7 p.m., Friday, April 15 TCCA program with percussionist Paul McDermand.

The TCCA was nominated for the award by the Payson Unified School District.
