The Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and Plant Fair Nursery will host the next Chamber Mixer Wednesday, April 20. Glen, Rob, Linda and staff will discuss what, where and when to plant vegetables, flowers, trees and shrubs. The mixer begins at 5:30 p.m. with finger foods and beverages, door prizes and 50/50 raffle for charity. Donations are $3 for members and $5 for the community. Kindergarten registration

Payson Unified School District announces kindergarten registration for the 2011-2012 school year. Families may register children who will be five years old before Sept. 1, 2011.

• Payson Schools provides half-day kindergarten and a tuition-based all-day kindergarten, Kinder Plus. Go to www.pusd.k12.az.us for more information on Kinder Plus.

• All kindergarten classes will be at Payson Elementary School next year.

• All kindergarten registration will take place at Payson Elementary School between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. only.

• Youngsters being registered need a birth certificate and immunizations that include five-year-old shots.

• Transportation arrangements will be discussed at registration.

Communication and memory loss

Judy Tailey of Mountain Valley Regional Rehabilitation hospital in Prescott Valley will speak on “When Memory Loss Gets in the Way: Communications for Those Who Care” at 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 19 at the Payson Senior Center, 514 W. Main St.

Mental health community forum

Cenpatico of Arizona will present a community forum from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 19 at the Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main St., Payson.

Cenpatico encourages the attendance of community leaders, advocates, providers, participants and the general public interested in mental health issues. Cenpatico representatives will be available to answer any questions and concerns.

Two plays planned by Junior Drama Club

Longhorn Theatre’s Junior Drama Club will present two short plays at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 20 and Thursday, April 21 at the Payson High School Auditorium.

The young people are producing “Twinderella” by Charlie Lovett; a comedy about Cinderella and her lost twin brother, Bob.

The second production is “The Mysterious Case of the Missing Ring” by Janie Downey Maxwell, another comedy.

Tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and students in the first through 12th grades. Renaissance cardholders receive a 50-cent discount and Thespian cardholders are admitted free.

Gosar staff in Payson

A staff member from the office U.S. Congressman Paul Gosar will be holding office hours in Payson from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday April 21 at the office of Gila County Supervisor Tommie Martin, 610 E. Highway 260. The event is open to the public. Staff will be able to provide help with federal agencies and answer questions.

First-time homebuyer seminar

A seminar to help first-time homebuyers navigate the world of HUD, FHA, VA and conventional financing will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 21 at the conference room at 418 S. Beeline Highway, next to Payson Paint.

Clark Jones will talk about how to buy a HUD home and Debra Isaac will discuss FHA, VA and conventional financing.

PRMC wants nominations

Payson Regional Medical Center is seeking nominations from former patients and their families for the annual Patient Choice Award, which recognizes the level of quality care, comfort and compassion offered by nurses each day.

Nominations are due by Friday, April 29 and the award will be made during Nurses’ Week May 6 through May 12.

Register now for Food Bank Golf Tournament

Calling all golfers! Get ready for a good time to help a good cause.

The 10th Annual St. Vincent de Paul Tee Off for Hunger Golf Tournament is coming up on Saturday, April 30. Register early, as the tournament is limited to 116 players.

The entry fee is $70 ($45 for Payson Golf Course Members) and includes green fee, cart and buffet lunch compliments of MoJoe’s Cafe. All proceeds will go to the St. Vincent de Paul Society’s Rim Country Food Bank.

Non-golfers can get in on the fun, too. If you sponsor a hole for $150, we will place a sign at the tee and you will receive a photo of the sign along with a letter of thanks.

In addition to hole sponsors, businesses and individuals may sponsor contests or donate prizes for the day’s raffles and silent auction.

The four-person Shotgun Scramble tournament begins at 8 a.m. Saturday will registration open at 7 a.m. at the Payson Golf Course, 1504 W. Country Club Drive in Payson.

Sign up as a foursome or an individual and we will pair you up.

Hole-In-One prizes this year include a 2011 Ford Fusion from Steve Coury Ford on Hole #8, $10,000 cash on Hole #2, and a $500 Visa gift card on Hole #5. You may also participate in the Dixon Golf Challenge to win a Nike driver or irons on Hole #14 and a Bose Wave Sound System on Hole #17.

The community’s generosity at last year’s event helped the Rim Country Food Bank provide 7,423 boxes of food, feeding a total of over 23,000 persons and provide financial assistance for a total of over $127,000.
