The owner of an auto repair shop doesn’t exactly conjure up the image of a philanthropist.
However, for the last two years, Steve Miller, owner of Miller Autoworks, has held an increasingly successful charity event, collecting thousands of dollars for local organizations.
Last year, Miller gave $2,000 to the local chapter of Special Olympics and the year before, $1,000 to Time Out, Inc.
On Friday, April 22, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Miller is hosting the third annual Oil Change for Charity at 600 W. Main St., Unit A.
For every oil change during the day, Miller will give all proceeds, minus taxes, to the Time Out Shelter.
Miller has a goal of raising $3,000.
“I started this as a way to give back to the community,” he said. “It seemed like a good idea.”
Miller said he alternates between donating to Time Out and Special Olympics, two organizations he favors because all the money stays local.
Oil changes start at $39 and go up, depending on the type of vehicle and the volume of oil needed.
Napa, BG Products and CarQuest are sponsoring the event by donating oil and oil filters.
Miller is donating the labor.
Reservations are not required, but a good idea. Call (928) 468-8855 to reserve a time slot.
“It is a good way to take car of your car and the community at the same time,” he said. “I want to raise as much for this charity as I can.”
