Easter is the last Sunday of April this year, but there are plenty of services and special events planned leading up to this sacred holiday. Here is a list of the services and events available at press time.
Church of the Holy Nativity
The Church of the Holy Nativity, an Anglican Catholic parish, 1414 N. Easy St., Payson, will commemorate the passion of our Lord with Holy Week services Holy Wednesday, April 20 with Low Mass and Holy Unction at 10 a.m.; Maundy Thursday Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper and Benediction at 6:30 p.m.; Good Friday, April 22, The Church of the Holy Nativity will be open from noon to 3 p.m. for private devotions and meditations and there will Stations of the Cross at 2 p.m.; the celebration of the Resurrection on Easter Sunday Morning, April 24 will include a Solemn High Mass 10 a.m., followed by an Easter brunch and Easter egg hunt for the children in the cloister. All are welcome.
Shepherd of The Pines Lutheran Church
Holy Week services at Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church, 507 W. Wade Lane, Payson, include:
• Maundy Thursday, April 21 service at 6 p.m.
Holy Communion will be served. The theme is
“It’s all about Cleansing.”
• Good Friday, April 22 service at 6 p.m. The
theme is “It’s all about Death.”
• Easter Sunday, April 24 Son-Rise service at 7
a.m. with Holy Communion; the theme is “This
is our Lord’s Day.” Pancake breakfast served
at 8 a.m. Easter Resurrection service at 10
a.m. with Holy Communion; the theme is “It’s
all about Life,” followed by a balloon launch.

St. Philip the Apostle Roman Catholic Church

Ponderosa Baptist Church will have a Jewish Passover Dinner at 5:30 p.m., Friday, April 22. Tickets are $22 per person. The Jewish Center in Scottsdale will cater the dinner. Mount Cross Lutheran Church
On Good Friday morning, there will be a short prayer service at 8:30 a.m. and an opportunity to sit in the church for private prayer in silence after that session until 9:45 a.m.
An Ecumenical Good Friday service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, April 22 at Mount Cross with the pastors and combined choirs of the Community Presbyterian Church, Mount Cross Lutheran Church, Payson United Methodist Church and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church participating.
The joint choirs will present Sir John Stainer’s oratorio “The Crucifixion” — a beautiful composition traditionally presented every Good Friday throughout England. It contains the familiar and beloved anthem, “God So Loved the World.”
It is a deeply moving choral account of Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross, and of the believers’ faith in Him.
Soloists with the chorus will be Del Bohlmeyer, bass; Jeff Rushlow, tenor; Dale Mueller, bass; Doug Overfield, baritone; and Lori Andretta, tenor. Dr. Mark Ramsey, from First Presbyterian Church, Mesa, will be organist, and Dr. Victoria Harris, from Mount Cross Lutheran Church, Payson, will direct.
Easter Sunday, the congregation and guests will celebrate with services on Sunday, April 24. A traditional service is at 8:30 a.m. and a contemporary service at 10:30 a.m. In between Easter services, a free brunch will be served in the log building on the Mount Cross campus. All are invited to join in these services.
Once again, the Payson Christian Ministerial Fellowship invites the community to join an Easter Celebration at Rumsey Park.
The annual Resurrection Celebration is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 23 at the big ramada in Rumsey Park.
There will be fun and entertainment for the whole family. Among the entertainers performing will be Dennis Zech with Ministry through Mystery, RU Band, Ca-Vu, La Roca, local praise bands, human dramas and more. There will be games for children, face painting, a hayride, Easter hats, prizes and candy.
Free food will be provided to participants including drinks, cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones, hot dogs, burritos and desserts. There will also be a clothing giveaway and community booths.
Living Last Supper dinner
Celebrate the Last Supper with a re-enactment of a Passover Celebration at Uptown Espresso, 613 N. Beeline Highway at 5 p.m., Saturday, April 23. Pastor Mike Stotts will perform a Passover or Seder service and a dinner will follow the feast. Come spend an intimate evening celebrating the greatest gift.
The Passover dinner will focus on Jesus, showing his amazing love and purpose for your life. We will show you why Communion is so important and what happened the night Jesus was betrayed.
The dinner will include chicken, wild rice, salad and a drink.
All are welcome. Tickets are $10 per person and must be bought in advance. Purchase tickets from Uptown Espresso.

Mountain Bible Church
Mountain Bible Church, 302 E. Rancho Road, Easter services will be held at 7 a.m., 8:45 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with children’s programming at 8:45 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Pastor Jim Harper will be speaking on the topic: “Seeking a Positive Connection with God.” There will also be an Easter service in Spanish at 12:30 p.m. where La Roca Church meets on a weekly basis.
The congregation would be thrilled to have Rim Country residents and visitors as its guest this Easter Sunday and beyond.
The congregation of the Expedition Church invites Rim Country residents and visitors to join them for a special Easter Celebration, “The Greatest Story Ever Told” at 10 a.m., Sunday, April 24 in the gym at Julia Randall Elementary School.
Kids’ classes and nursery will be available.
Annual Easter Eggstravaganza egg hunt, hosted by Kiwanis is Saturday, April 23 at Rumsey Park Field 2. This is a free event and participants are encouraged to come early.

Christopher Creek Easter egg hunt
The Christopher Creek Homeowners Association will have an Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 23 at Columbine Road across from Ashby’s meadow. Children or grandchildren of residents of the Christopher/Kohl’s Fire District are welcome to attend, but be sure to bring a basket.
