Firefighters from several districts were called upon to control a fire at the Catalyst Paper Mill on Monday, April 18 when a fire broke out in the baled waste yard of the plant.
Emergency crews responded to a fire emergency at the Catalyst Paper Mill between Snowflake and Heber. The fire began at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 18. Shortly thereafter, workers at the mill reported the incident.
Fire crews from the towns of Heber-Overgaard, Snowflake and Taylor, the Pinetop, Lakeside and Show Low fire districts responded to fight the fire which was localized in the area of the recycled paper bundles in what is known as the “baled waste yard” stored at the facility.
No injuries have been reported.
Assistance from the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office and the Navajo County Public Works was rendered to help the emergency responders with traffic control and water supplies to fight the fire.
Cause of the fire is undetermined at the time of this report.
The Ponderosa Lions Club is hosting their annual Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 23 at the Navajo County’s Tall Timbers Park. The Easter egg hunt will start at 10:30 a.m. and the coloring contest judging will start at 11 a.m.
There will be two winners for each age group of 0-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12. There will be hot dogs and refreshments served by the Lions Club.
A table will be set up for face painting. Coloring contest entries are available at Capps Middle School, Mountain Meadows Primary School and the Rim Community Library.
