The Payson High School chapter of FFA will host a One Day Rodeo and Family Fun Day at the Payson Event Center starting at 8 a.m., Saturday, April 30. There will be timed events, with books opening at 8 a.m. and closing at 9 a.m., a Foot Rodeo for those 8 and younger and a Family Roping event for teams of parent and child, with books opening at 11 a.m. and closing at 12:30 p.m. For more details, see the ‘Extra Points’ column on today’s Sports pages, 8A and 9A.

Nominate a nurse

Payson Regional Medical Center wants patient input in selecting its top nurses in its annual Patient Choice Award program. This award recognizes the level of quality care, comfort and compassion offered by nurses each day. Continuing the tradition of the last few years, the hospital is asking for input from the community, and one nurse chosen from the nominations will receive the Patient Choice Award at PRMC during Nurses’ Week, May 6-12.

Nominations for the 2011 Patient Choice award will be accepted until Friday, April 29. Nominations can be made online at the hospital’s Web site at www.PaysonHospital .com/nominations or nominations can be e-mailed or faxed (must arrive by April 29) —e-mail to Hartland_H_Hintze@chs.net or fax to (928) 472-1348.

Genealogy society yard sale

The Northern Gila County Genealogical Society will be holding its Annual Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30. The yard sale will be at 302 E. Bonita St., Payson. All proceeds will go to the operating cost of the library.

‘Up The Down Staircase’

Payson High School Longhorn Theatre will present the play “Up the Down Staircase” at 4 p.m., Friday, April 29; and 7 p.m., Saturday, April 30, and then again at 4 p.m., Friday, May 6 and 7 p.m., Saturday, May 7.

Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.

Local musical artists at Glendale event

Local artist Tessa Karrys will be playing at 6 p.m., Friday, April 29 with Landon Shill & the Real McCoys, another local group. They will be opening for George Thorogood at the Big Red Rib and Music Festival at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.

Landon and Tessa will also be playing an acoustic show at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 30 at Kohl’s Ranch, located east of Payson off of Highway 260.

RPAP Brush Pit schedule

This coming weekend, the Regional Payson Area Project… for a Fire Wise Rim Country (RPAP) will be staffing free brush drop-off points at the following locations, weather permitting:

Saturday, April 30 the Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Blattner Pit is located at Milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.

Sunday, May 1 the Pine Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Pine Pit is located .7 of a mile east of Highway 87 on Control Road, south of Pine.

Church yard sale

The Rim Valley Church of God, 208 S. McLane Road will be having a fund-raiser on Saturday, April 30. There will be a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a hot dog sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Donations wanted for sale

The Riff Raff Memorial Day Weekend Yard Sale will be at the Pine Market. Funds stay in Strawberry and Pine and are used for Thanksgiving and Christmas food for local families in need. Donations are accepted every Saturday from noon until 4 p.m. at Bishop Self Storage units 206 and 207, except for clothing, old TVs, or computer monitors.

Yard sale Saturday to support human rights

The Payson Chapter of Amnesty International is holding a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 30 in the Prudential parking lot, 609 S. Beeline Highway.

Stop by to purchase a treasure and to learn about Amnesty’s work to decrease maternal mortality in the United States and around the word. All proceeds will go to support human rights work.

Payson Friends of Ferals

Payson Friends of Ferals will have a table at the Senior Circle Swap Meet Saturday, April 30. The event is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 215 N. Beeline Highway.

Browse the Tipped Ear table for costume jewelry, craft items, fashion accessories and more. Pick up information on Payson’s successful feral cat TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) program.

Tee Off for Hunger

The 10th annual golf tournament, Tee Off for Hunger, benefiting the Rim Country Food Bank, will be held starting at 8 a.m., Saturday, April 30 at the Payson Golf Course.

Pine May Day celebration

The Pine Strawberry Business Community is sponsoring the second annual May Day Gardening Celebration Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1.

The event will be held at the Community Center and Ramada of Pine, which is at the heart of Pine on Highway 87 (3886 N. Highway 87) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

There will also be a Salsa Challenge featuring favorite local salsa recipes as well as a few entrants from around the state. Salsa lovers can sample the entries for $3.

Humane Society fund-raiser

The Rim Country Middle School student council is hosting a fund-raising event for the Humane Society of Central Arizona from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 30. It is a walk-a-thon on the high school track field to help raise money.

Students will collect pledges for how many laps they will complete around the track, and the proceeds will go toward the Humane Society. The Humane Society will be present, as well as Scoops. Students will also be selling snacks, drinks and other items as well.

Choral Society concert

The Payson Choral Society’s Spring concert, “Singing Coast to Coast,” directed by Daria Mason with accompaniment by Victoria Harris, comes to the Payson High School Auditorium Saturday, April 30.

Performances will be at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Pre-sale concert tickets are $8 for adults and all students under 18 and children will be admitted at no charge, if accompanied by an adult.

Tickets may be purchased in advance from Choral Society members, at the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Payson Public Library. Tickets will also be available at the door before each concert for $10 each.

Proceeds from the concerts provide musical scholarships to middle school and high school students. These have been awarded and the student recipients will sing their winning tryout selection at the concert.

New member auditions will be held the Monday following the concert at 5:30 p.m., May 2 at the Payson United Methodist Church, 414 N. Easy St.

Rim Country residents and visitors are invited to hear the Ozarks in concert at 6 p.m., Sunday May 1 at the Star Valley Baptist Church, 4180 E. Highway 260.
