The Longhorn golf team continued its quest to reach the state tournament easily rolling to a gold-medal win in a five-way meet held April 19 at Snowflake Golf Course.

Although the April 19 meet was played on the Lobo home course, it was hosted by Winslow High School.

The Horns carded a 170 to outduel a runner-up Winslow team that struggled to a 210.

The other teams involved, Holbrook, Mogollon and Chinle, did not receive team scores after not being able to field the minimum number of players needed.

For the Horns, Tyler Apps paced the team with a 39 — a score that tied him with Winslow’s David Aberle for tournament low medalist honors.

Also for PHS, Cody Bossert posted a 41, Jeffery Kelley came in at 45 and Todd McCarthy had a 49.

The Horns were set to host Show Low on April 21 in a nine-hole match at Chaparral Pines, but the match was canceled by request of Show Low officials.

The Longhorns are in action today, April 29, and tomorrow in the 36-hole White Mountain Invitational.

Today’s round will be played at Silver Creek Golf Course and tomorrow’s round in Snowflake.
