It’s National Farmers Week, and to celebrate, the 2nd Annual Tractor Show is planned at the Saturday, Aug. 13 Payson Farmers Market. The Rim Country members of the Northern Arizona Antique Tractor and Engine Association are bringing their tractors and farm equipment to show at the market.

Arts & Crafts sale

The Mogollon Health Alliance will be having an Arts & Crafts Sale until 4:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12 and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Mogollon Health Alliance Activity Center (next to the Almost New Thrift Shop).

Stop by to see unique, hand-crafted items for the upcoming holidays and other gift-giving opportunities: potato bags, scarves, Christmas items, wreaths, jewelry, aprons and purses, bird feeders, afghans, baby blankets, baby bibs, tissue box covers, dog blankets, pillows, hats, catnip toys, dish cloths, pot holders, tote bags, PJs, cloth books and much more.

Brush pits open

This coming weekend, the Regional Payson Area Project… for a Fire Wise Rim Country (RPAP) will be staffing free brush drop-off points at the following locations, weather permitting:

Saturday, Aug. 13 the Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Blattner Pit is located at Milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.

Sunday, Aug. 14 the Pine Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Pine Pit is located .7 of a mile east of Highway 87 on Control Road, south of Pine.

All RPAP free drop-off locations are for citizens to dispose of brush, leaves, pine needles, trimmings and other vegetative materials only. Properly bagged Yellow Starthistle, or other listed noxious weed species will also be accepted and will be burned.

Payson Farmers Market hosts antique tractor, engine show

It’s National Farmers Week, and to celebrate, the 2nd Annual Tractor Show is planned at the Saturday, Aug. 13 Payson Farmers Market.

The Rim Country members of the Northern Arizona Antique Tractor and Engine Association are bringing their tractors and farm equipment to show at the market. There will be information, photo opportunities and good fun for all.

In addition to this special entertainment, shoppers can also purchase fresh, sweet corn on the cob; Gisela peaches; vegetables; free range beef; tamales or any of hundreds of locally made or grown foods.

All participating farmers accept WIC (Women, Infants and Children) and SFMNP (Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Program) checks.

Also entertaining this week is the fun and popular Anne James.

The Payson Farmers Market is from 8 a.m. to noon, every Saturday at 816 S. Beeline Highway at Sawmill Crossing, behind Chili’s restaurant.

Quilt auction

The Strawberry Patchers will hold their 3rd Annual Quilt Auction Aug. 13 in the Pine Community Center Cultural Hall, at milepost 267.8 on Highway 87.

Doors open at 10 a.m. for registration and preview. The auction will start at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free. However, those who bring a non-perishable food item will be entered into the drawing for a special quilt held for after the auction. A piece entitled “Sylvester” made by Sharon Schamber could be yours! Opportunity quilt tickets will be available, along with ‘buy it now’ quilts.

Those who have a quilt they would like to put in the auction can find the appropriate forms online.

AARP Driving Safety Class

The next AARP Driving Safety Class is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Payson Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway. The course will be taught by Doug Eckert.

Montessori open house

Morgan’s Creek Montessori Preschool and Kindergarten will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 13 to celebrate the opening of the school. There will be a bounce house and other activities for the children including prizes, a barbecue of hamburgers and hotdogs, chips and drinks. Everyone is welcome.

Shop Hop in Pine

Visit Myra’s Gallery, Pine by Design, Moose Mountain and Pine Country Antiques for the Saturday, Aug. 13 Shop Hop in Pine. The stores stay open late and offer great features.

Myra’s Gallery will feature the work of Myra Kraemer and Matalyn Gardner, as well as live music by Trouble in Paradise (Chuck and Barbara Casey).

Girl Scout registration

Interested in joining Girl Scouts? Girls of all ages are welcome. The local organization is looking for leaders too.

Registration will be from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 15 at Payson Elementary School; and again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 17 and Thursday, Aug. 18 at Scoops in the Sawmill Crossing.

NFL Flag Football

The NFL Flag Football league registration is now open. The program offers youth the opportunity to learn athletic skills and football knowledge in a fun, safe and educational setting. Registration includes a football jersey and mouth guard. The cost is $35 per participant.

Registration closes Aug. 15, with games scheduled to start at the end of August and continue until early October at the Rumsey 1 outfield.

Free CPR class

The Mogollon Health Alliance, in conjunction with the Payson Fire Department, will be holding a free Heartsaver CPR class from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 15.

MHA pays for the class through fund-raising, its gift shop at the hospital, and through the generous donations to its Almost New Thrift Shop at 304 E. Aero Drive.

Preschool open house

Those interested in preschool for their child are invited to an open house at the Payson Church of the Nazarene Safe Haven Child Development Center. The event is from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 15.

Payson Church of the Nazarene is at 200 E. Tyler Parkway, across from Home Depot.

Safe Haven offers a Christian educational program using Funshine Express and Alpha Omega Curriculum for children 3 to 5 years of age.

Youth sports card show

Young people, ages 9 to 16, are invited by the Payson Public Library to bring all their sports cards and other types of cards to trade or sell from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10. The library will provide the space, pizza, soda and great sports prize giveaways during the event.

Sign up in the library’s children’s room from Tuesday, Aug. 16 through Saturday, Sept. 3.

No parents will be allowed at the tables to help the youth sell their cards, however, parents and the public can come to the tables to buy the sports cards.
