Payson Art League

Payson Art League’s Aug. 16 meeting features a demonstration by Dennis Weber, who does sculptures out of “paper clay.”

The Aug. 16 meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. with socializing and show and share session, with the program at 7 p.m. The meeting is at the Rim Country Health & Retirement Community, 807 W. Longhorn Road. The public is welcome.

Rodeo help wanted

The committee is seeking Rim residents to volunteer for a variety of jobs that are needed to put on the 127th Annual World’s Oldest Continuous Rodeo Aug. 18-21.

Payson Area Singles

This club has no dues or elections. The Tuesday Morning Breakfast Bunch meets at Tiny’s Restaurant at 9 a.m. every week to visit and plan future activities. Upcoming activities include:

• Wednesday, Aug. 17, meet at Rimside Grill in Pine for lunch at 11:45 a.m., and then attend the Fiddlers Jam Session in the Pine Cultural Hall at 1 p.m.

• Thursday, Aug. 18, All Aboard America bus trip to Cliff Castle Casino.

• Sunday, Aug. 21, Elks Club Sports Dinner at 4 p.m., followed by dessert in a members home.

• Wednesday, Aug. 24, 3:45 p.m., all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner at Cardo’s.

• Saturday Sept. 3, Second Annual Chili Contest and potluck — great prizes for Chili winners.

New Mother’s Club will meet Aug. 17

The Payson United Methodist Church Mother’s Club is being organized. The first meeting is from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 17.

The goal is to help mothers meet other mothers, like themselves, for the purpose of finding support as they raise their children.

The group plans to meet the third Wednesday of each month and would like to have input from participants about what programs would be most helpful.

A free evening meal will be served at 6 p.m. for participants and their children, age 3 and above, and the sitters will be provided while the moms meet.

Some ideas for the club are: speakers to discuss parenting issues, budgeting and making affordable meals. Some thought has also been given to children’s clothing and toy exchanges. All area mothers are invited to attend.

New Hope Grief Support Group

The New Hope Grief Support Group is for those who have lost a spouse. It meets from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, Payson.

Unity of Payson and Daily Word Readers

Unity of Payson is now an official church affiliated with Unity Worldwide Ministries. Sunday Unity Services are planned to commence this fall, those interested are invited to attend these continuing events:

Lost Loves support group meets Thursday

Lost Loves, a new support group for adults who have lost a loved one through suicide, meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month.

Adults suffering from such a loss are welcome to attend the group sessions which are free of charge.

Lost Loves will address grieving and other specific issues which those left behind often experience.  The group will be facilitated by a professional counselor and a survivor of suicide loss.

A nonprofit organization, Lost Loves is currently scheduled to meet at the Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, Payson.

Moose Lodge spaghetti dinner

The Greater Payson Area Moose Lodge will hold a Member Appreciation Spaghetti dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 20. For information, call the Lodge at (928) 474-6212.

The Women of the Moose will host a jewelry and accessory sale Saturday, Aug. 20 and Sunday, Aug. 21 during Lodge hours.

Pine Library Friends

The next meeting of the Pine Library Friends will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 22. It will be held in the Pine Library Activity Room, located right behind the Cultural Hall in Pine.

The guest speaker will be Marilyn Horne of Rim Country Literacy. She has recently moved to Pine from Houston, Texas. Please come and help welcome her to the community.

Rim Country Celts will meet at 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 21 at Tiny’s Restaurant on East Highway 260, Payson.

Scripture study

A non-denominational, in-depth expository scripture study is held at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays at Uptown Espresso, 612 N. Beeline Highway, Payson.

The group is currently studying through the Gospel of John.
