Unity of Payson and Daily Word Readers

Unity of Payson is now an official church affiliated with Unity Worldwide Ministries. Sunday Unity Services are planned to commence this fall, those interested are invited to attend these continuing events:

Tai Chi and Qigong

Tai Chi and Qigong classes are offered at 9 a.m. Saturdays at the Rim Country Health and Retirement Community, 807 W. Longhorn Road.

The program is especially designed for seniors 50 or older, but is beneficial for all ages. There is no charge, but donations are accepted.

Moose Lodge spaghetti dinner

The Greater Payson Area Moose Lodge will hold a Member Appreciation Spaghetti dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 20. For information, call the Lodge at (928) 474-6212.

The Women of the Moose will host a jewelry and accessory sale Saturday, Aug. 20 and Sunday, Aug. 21 during Lodge hours.

Kohl’s Ranch Outdoor Chapel

The Kohl’s Ranch Outdoor Chapel is now open at 8:30 a.m. every Sunday through Labor Day for multi-denominational Christian worship services.

To get to the chapel, take Highway 260 east about 15 miles from Payson to the Kohl’s Ranch turnoff where you turn right and then follow the signs and path south after the cattle guard.

Rim Country Celts

Rim Country Celts will meet at 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 21 at Tiny’s Restaurant on East Highway 260, Payson. 

All who are interested in the Celtic peoples, their customs and their history are invited.

The group will be making plans for a Ceilidh to be held Saturday, Oct. 1 in Payson.

Payson Area Singles

This group has no dues or elections.

Members will are invited to attend the Elks’ Sports Dinner at 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 21.

The Tuesday Morning Breakfast Bunch meets at Tiny’s Restaurant at 9 a.m. to visit and plan future activities.

On Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 1 p.m., members will carpool to Pine for lunch at Rimside Grill and the Fiddler’s Jam Session.

Pine Library Friends

The next meeting of the Pine Library Friends will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 22. It will be held in the Pine Library Activity Room, located right behind the Cultural Hall in Pine.

The guest speaker will be Marilyn Horne of Rim Country Literacy Program. She has recently moved to Pine from Houston, Texas. Please come and help welcome her to the community.

Overeaters Anonymous

Overeaters Anonymous meets from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays at the Rim Country Health & Retirement Community, 807 W. Longhorn Road, Payson. (After turning in driveway, turn right at first driveway. OA meets in the Community Room in the center of the facility’s apartment complex.)

Pain management support group

Making Life Better, a pain management support group, meets from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Monday, excluding holidays, at the lobby of the Grant Clinic, 903 E. Highway 260, Payson. All are welcome to attend the free program.

Friendship Bible Class

Friendship Bible Class, formerly Friendship Coffee, a non-denominational Bible study for women, meets at 1 p.m. every Tuesday at Uptown Espresso. All women in the community are invited.

NARFE meeting

The Mogollon Chapter 1235 of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees will hold its monthly, no-host lunch and meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 24. The meeting will be held at Tiny’s Restaurant on Highway 260.

This month, our featured guest will be Gila County District Supervisor Tommie Cline Martin. She will discuss the realignment of the voting districts in Gila County.
