As you know, the Payson Patriotic Events Committee puts up the flags on our historic Main Street. I was making an inventory of our supply and found a number of the flags to be unserviceable. With the rodeo upcoming, I wanted to have those flags flying over this weekend. I put out the call for help and the Payson Chamber of Commerce and the Rodeo Committee responded.
I called Home Depot (the place where Pat Johnson and I first purchased the flags) and they agreed to give me a discount if I purchased them through the Marine Corps League Detachment (nonprofit). I agreed and when I went out to pick them up to pay the balance, they told me that I owed no money.
As I left the Home Depot I ran into Vince Conte a good friend, Home Depot employee, and retired Army master sergeant. I told him that I have the flags and I liked the price ... he said, “Courtesy of all the veterans at Home Depot!” What an outstanding gesture.
I want to send out a great “shout out” to: the Payson Chamber of Commerce; the Payson Rodeo Committee for their outstanding generosity and support of our flag program; and a very special “thank you” to the veterans and American patriots at the Payson Home Depot for their generosity, patriotic support and appreciation for “Keeping the Flags Flying” on our historic Main Street!
A great demonstration of partnership and teamwork for something that is a good thing for all concerned!
