The fair days and cold nights are predicted to change to snow on Friday and Saturday this week for Heber Overgaard. The temperatures will reflect the storm with a dip into the lower teens at night and mid 30s during the day. Even colder temperatures will encompass our area as the storm has passed.

Arizona Department of Transportation has added 15 new snowplows statewide for the winter season this year.

The 395 snowplow operators are ready to go for this winter season of snow. The budget for snow removal is between $5 million and $7 million.

Last season, ADOT spent approximately $5.7 million on snow removal efforts. This figure includes labor costs, equipment expenses, fuel and de-icer chemicals. With all the equipment and funds available to maintaining the roadways, we here in Heber Overgaard have seen SR 260 toward Payson closed due to snow accumulation.

It usually is blocked just west of the Circle K on the west end of town. This is in part due to heavy snowfall where the equipment cannot keep up with the removal of snow buildup and becomes too hazardous for motorists to navigate.

The decision to close a highway rests with ADOT. Once it is deemed passable and safe to navigate, it is re-opened.
