Snowy tracks led police to an alleged thief’s cozy hiding place, landing him in a not-so-cozy jail cell.
On Dec. 3, a Payson Police officer got a call of a burglary in the area of West Johnson Drive. The homeowner said several items of value were missing.
Officers noticed tracks leading from the break-in entry point to a nearby home, said Police Chief Don Engler.
Det. Michael McAnerny drafted a search warrant for the home and, with a judge’s approval, entered the home and found two people hiding in the attic under blankets, Engler said.
Officers arrested Darold Lee Leneberg, 28, and Carrissa Edwards, 24.
Leneberg was booked into the Gila County Jail on charges of burglary and for a warrant. Edwards was charged with hindering prosecution. Leneberg is still in custody while Edwards was released Dec. 7.
Officers found several of the victim’s items in the attic and around the home.
