New Year’s Eve Service

Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church, 507 W. Wade Lane, will have a New Year’s Eve service at 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 31. Holy Communion will be served. The theme will be “What’s your Resolution?”

A New Year’s sunrise prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1 on Houston Mesa Road.

Sunrise Prayer Service

Start the New Year right with a New Year’s Sunrise Prayer Service at 7 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 1.

Meet at the top of Houston Mesa Road, about two miles east of Beeline Highway. Participants will then hike about five minutes to an overlook of the Rim Country where there will be a prayer service for the community and the nation.

In case of rain or snow, the service will be at the Wolf’s Den, 612 N. Beeline Highway, Payson (the coffee shop north of the Swiss Village Circle K). For details, call (928) 472-8178.

GCC has new activity classes

The Gila Community College Payson campus will be offering two new activity classes for the spring semester: Tai Chi with Thomas Quirk for students with arthritis, 11 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday and/or at 6:30 p.m.; belly dancing with Su von Mazo at 4 p.m. Wednesdays. Lip Sync contest entries wanted

The 4th Annual Lip Sync contest will be Feb. 18. All students from area high schools, both private and public, along with home-schooled students are invited to compete. There will be $1,100 given in prizes.

Choice of music and preparation needs to be completed by Jan. 18 when tryouts will take place. Applications for this event can be obtained from the Payson High School Drama Department, Rim Country Optimist Club www.rimcountryoptimist.com and Payson High School www.phslonghorn theatre.com.

Tickets are available sometime from the Kiwanis, Optimist and Rotary Club members and at the Payson Public Library, Rim Country Chamber of Commerce, Oasis Christian Book Store and the Black Box Theater at PHS.
