The Denny’s restaurant in Payson has a new attitude.
Last summer, the restaurant hired Sue Jordan as the new manager. Jordan has worked for Denny’s restaurants since 1978.
Her career started with waitressing at Denny’s in Hemet, Calif.
Since then, she has worked her way up the ladder, working formerly as the general manager of Denny’s corporate in Phoenix.
But, Jordan said she always dreamed of living in Payson.
When she heard the manager position was open, she told her husband and family they were moving.
“Those sorts of positions don’t open up very often,” she said.
For the past year, she has listened to patrons’ suggestions and made upgrades.
When customers told her some of the staff looked like they had spent the night in their uniforms, she asked staff to improve their appearance.
With her “big city” experience, she has also worked to improve sanitation and fire safety in the restaurant.
“I’ve had compliments from people who would usually complain,” she said.
Compared to the structure and intensity of Phoenix, Jordan finds the staff and customers in Payson a laid back, friendly group.
“Folks are pretty nice up here,” she said.
Overall, Jordan and her husband love Payson. The most challenging part of moving to Payson a year ago has been getting used to a small town.
Jordan found people took awhile to warm up to her, but now, “I absolutely love Payson,” she said.
Her favorite activities are hunting, fishing and camping.
With her grandson now living with her, she also enjoys getting out onto Roosevelt Lake.
Mostly though, she works.
