Longhorn Band, Choir Win Top Slots In Regional Competition

Payson High School music students hit a high note this year in a tough, statewide competition.

Out of the 20 Payson students who auditioned for a spot on this year’s All Region Honor Band, 15 made the cut.

The local students were among 150 instrumental students and 300 vocal students who competed for a slot.

The students will perform at a regional music festival.

They will then audition once again in March, this time for a slot in the State Honor Groups.

Top finishers from Payson included:

First-place chairs: John Buskirk, trombone and euphonium; Kit Buskirk, French horn; Louis Potvin, percussion; Marcy Ward, clarinet.

Second-place chairs: Sierra McMartin, trombone; Shelby Stuart, French horn; Michael Armstrong, percussion.

Section placement: Jared Varner, trombone; Tim Wallace, trumpet; Jimmy Brown, trumpet; Brett Royer, saxophone; EmmaLee Zenko, flute; Kelsie Owen, percussion; Candice Taylo, percussion; Brad Kisler, percussion; Katie Schouten, soprano; Harmony Walkere, soprano; Michael Armstrong, tenor.
