The Tonto Community Concert Association will present Celtic Blaze in concert at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 14 at the Payson High School Auditorium. The group is based in Canada and will offer a program of music and dance based on the country’s rich Celtic tradition. Single tickets are $30, if available. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Birth of Rock ’n Roll benefit features music, ’50s food

This Saturday, Feb. 12 at 2:30 p.m., the Uptown Espresso in the Swiss Village will be rocking with the Rim Country Literacy benefit, The Birth of Rock N Roll.

Ray Baxter, local Rock ’n Roll enthusiast and historian, will be leading the festivities, tracing the beginning of rock. The presentation will include a video documentary, a trivia contest, lots of terrific music, and a fabulous 50s meal.

Tickets for the event are $15 per person.  Seating is limited and tickets are almost sold out. Get tickets at the Roundup, the Senior Circle, the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and Uptown Espresso, as well as from RCLP board members and at the RCLP office.

Jazz concert

Mark DeCozio, a jazz pianist and vocalist, will perform from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 13 at the Payson Community Presbyterian Church as part of the monthly jazz concert series presented by the Payson Friends of Jazz and the church.

The Prelude to Valentine’s Day concert will also feature Mike King on bass and Gerry Reynolds on drums.

Gospel concert

The Nashville-based “Blackwood Legacy” Contemporary Southern Gospel group will be in concert at 6 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 13 at the Crossroads Foursquare Church in Payson. Admission is free and a love offering will be received.

One of today’s most popular and requested touring groups, the Blackwood Legacy is led by Rick Price, a veteran Southern Gospel entertainer with more than 30 years in the industry.

Included in the talented lineup is Luke Yates, one of the most gifted pianists in gospel music today, and Daniel Childs, a talented musician, singer and Christian songwriter in his right.

Blood drives

There will be a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 14 at the Payson Town Hall parking lot, 303 N. Beeline Highway.

Another collection will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22 at the Payson High School gym, 514 W. Wade Lane.

Donate to benefit rummage sale

Donations for a benefit rummage sale will be accepted the week of Feb. 14 by the Payson First Church of the Nazarene, which is planning the sale to assist teen girls with the expenses of attending the “Dream On” conference. The sale will be from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 18.

Minnesota Breakfast planned

Rim Country residents and visitors originally from Minnesota are invited to a Minnesota Breakfast starting at 7 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 15 at Tiny’s Restaurant, located on East Highway 260.

Come and enjoy a great breakfast or just a cup of coffee and spend a few minutes visiting with others from Minnesota.

Helping get ready

for high school

The Payson Unified School District is presenting a program to help parents help their children prepare for high school.

Parents are asked to come to the Rim Country Middle School Library to complete the transition process on one of four nights: Feb. 15, Feb. 16, Feb. 22 or Feb. 23. The following activities are planned during this session: brief orientation, complete registration documents, receive a course description guide, and review 6-year plan and complete form to request elective courses for next year with a Payson High School staff member.

Once the process is completed, parents will have received all information and completed all preliminary forms that will have their student ready for check-in next year as a freshman at Payson High School.
