In response to the letter from Robert Herslberger (Roundup, Jan. 28), I’d like to say yes, close those loop holes and you’re right, a penny wouldn’t hurt anyone. But I think I have a better solution.
It makes sense to me that if you apply for welfare or food stamps or any other assistance available because of taxpayers, you should have to pass a drug test also at the start and monthly. Testing is cheap. They make them over the counter for parents.
We are being taken by people who work as hard at working the system as they could at working a job. And with the money we save, we can go after the people who are taking advantage of our Social Security program. No one is checking up on them.
