Tuesday, the Roundup made a correction to their previous story about the bridge across Tonto Creek at Punkin Center. The number of people who were stranded on the east side of Tonto Creek was reduced from 2,000 to 300.
The price tag on this bridge, though not as high as the infamous Alaska “Bridge to Nowhere,” is comparable in the money Alaska had available to spend versus the amount of money available in Gila County for a similar project. The Tonto bridge price tag is currently set at $23 million, plus another $2.5 million for “studies.” That comes to $85,000 for every man, woman and child who chose to live on the wrong side of the seasonal waterway.
This sure looks and smells a lot like pork to me.
