Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer will be the special guest of the Gila County Republican Committee at its annual Lincoln Day benefit luncheon at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Tiny’s Family Restaurant on East Highway 260. Ticket cost is $25 per person for a roast beef, grilled chicken or grilled fish lunch. Tickets are available by calling the GCRC at (928) 951-3284 or Shirley at (928) 468-1131. Brush pits closed

Due to anticipated snow and mud from storms predicted for this weekend, all RPAP brush pits will be closed Saturday, Feb. 19 and Sunday, Feb. 20.

AARP Driver Safety Class

An AARP Driver Safety class will be held at the Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, on Saturday, Feb. 19, from noon until 4 p.m.

This is a classroom refresher for motorists aged 50 and older. The cost is $14, but AARP members will receive a $2 discount with their membership card. Participants should bring their driver’s license.

Concert at Ponderosa Baptist

Jerry Nelson, an internationally celebrated concert pianist, will perform at Ponderosa Baptist Church at 6 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 20.

Nelson has established himself as one of the world’s premiere performers, having performed on all continents. His creative touch appears on more than 500 recording projects and his publishing and arranging efforts include several dozen original songs and more than 5,000 arrangements.

This is a free concert at Ponderosa Baptist Church, 1800 N. Beeline Highway, Payson. A freewill offering will be received.

Dynamic Marriage class

Develop the marital relationship you have always wanted through a nine-week Dynamic Marriage class starting Feb. 20 and continuing through April 17 at Mountain Bible Church.

Led by Darren and Cynthia Hudson, the class will be held from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sundays at the church, located at 302 E. Rancho Road, Payson.

Grief seminar

Hospice Compassus of Payson will offer a six-week grief support seminar entitled Life After Loss.

The seminar is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Feb. 22 at the Hospice Compassus office, 511 Mud Springs Road.

Life After Loss will be held for six consecutive Tuesdays, Feb. 22 through March 29. There is no fee, however, space is limited. To register or learn more about the seminar, please call Janine Affeldt at (928) 472-6340.

Hunter Education class

A Hunter Education class will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22 through Friday, Feb. 25. The classroom portion of the program will be followed by a day at the shooting range at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 26. The cost is $8 per person.

Helping get ready for high school

The Payson Unified School District is presenting a program to help parents help their children prepare for high school.

Parents are asked to come to the Rim Country Middle School Library to complete the transition process on Feb. 22 or Feb. 23. The following activities are planned during this session: brief orientation, complete registration documents, receive a course description guide, and review 6-year plan and complete form to request elective courses for next year with a Payson High School staff member.

Once the process is completed, parents will have received all information and completed all preliminary forms that will have their student ready for check-in next year as a freshman at Payson High School.
