Rate Increase Went Into Effect Early In Pine

In August 2010, Pine Strawberry Water Improvement District (PSWID) approved water rate increases to be effective as of Jan. 1, 2011. As part of the rate increase, the monthly service charge would be raised to $36 plus tax, and customers would only be charged additional fees if they used over 3,000 gallons of water a month.

By now most PSWID customers have received their December statement. This statement has a note that reaffirms that water rate increases are effective Jan. 1, 2011. To most people this would mean that the increase in the monthly service charge would first appear on one’s January, 2011 statement.

Unfortunately, PSWID has imposed the new monthly service charge on December statements.

If you do not approve of PSWID’s application of the new rate in the monthly service charge to December statements, please let PSWID know. Contact numbers can be found on your PSWID statement.

I just received my water bill for a vacant lot and my cabin and I am in utter shock. My meter rate on my vacant land went from $19.85/mo. to $38.74. There is no water usage on vacant land! Our cabin water bill nearly doubled too! I called the PSWID office and talked to the district manager, Danny. He asked how much was my truck hauling compared to this bill. Hey Danny! Strawberry has never had a truck hauler deliver water there since I can remember! All he said was sorry ma’am. Sorry doesn’t cut it. This is unacceptable to me as a resident, especially in this economy!

I then instructed the PSWID to remove the meter from my vacant land. Customer service politely informed me that it would cost me $3,400 to have a meter reinstalled! Again, shocker! They are certainly discouraging growth now, which some people want, but to put the screws in like this is unreal. I trusted the new PSWID board and I explicitly remember them promising the residents that our rate would not go up! I am livid and now believe I owe that guy that was trying to warn us all an apology. I am so disappointed in the PSWID board. This is unreal. I told the district manager there needs to be a jar of Vaseline delivered to each meter owner. This is pure Rim Country robbery if I saw it. Then there’s this existing extra charge on our property taxes for the PSWID. Get that off my property taxes, now!
