Volunteers with Kaitie’s Closet will be distributing clothes for children from 2:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 19 at the Rim Country Middle School, 304 S. Meadow St. Everyone in Rim Country needing children’s clothing is welcome.

Hatchery Road restricted

Travel on Tonto Creek Hatchery Road will be restricted starting on Wednesday, Jan. 19. Renovations on Tonto Creek will likely interfere with travel on the hatchery road north of Highway 260 as heavy equipment works in the area.

Travelers should expect short delays and plan accordingly. Construction is scheduled to last three weeks.

Business Buzz

The Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Gila County Economic Development Corporation will host a Business Buzz from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 19 at East West Exchange, 100 N. Tonto St., Payson.

The guest speaker is Kimber Lanning, president of Local First Arizona, a statewide company dedicated to promoting the Be Loyal Buy Local concept. Vita Mart, the Ranch at Fossil Creek and others will be showing examples of local products.

Donations of $3 from chamber members and $5 from non-members are being requested.

Lunch will be a Bring Your Own Brown Bag, with coffee and specialty drinks provided by East West Exchange.

Book signing

Author Katy Rovetto will sign copies of her book “Flying High: Soaring Above the Tragedies of Life” at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 19 at Payson Regional Medical Center’s Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, Payson. She will also be speaking about her experiences.

Relay for Life

Payson Relay for Life has changed its name. To recognize the surrounding communities’ efforts in this annual fund-raising event for the American Cancer Society, Payson Relay for Life is now known as Rim Country Relay for Life.

The first meeting of the organizing committee under the new name is from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 19, at Scoops, in the back room.

Forest restoration workshop

Members of the public are invited to a workshop from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 20 at the Flagstaff Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) office to review a draft proposal to restore ponderosa pine ecosystems across two national forests in northern Arizona.

The workshop is the first in a series of meetings related to the Four Forest Restoration Initiative (4FRI) that will be held to review a proposed action to treat forested acres on the Kaibab and Coconino national forests.

The objectives of the Jan. 20 meeting at the AZGFD office, 3500 S. Lake Mary Road, are to provide the public with an introduction and overview of work completed in preparation of the proposed action and to provide an opportunity to ask questions.
