Sonoran Swing will provide the music for the dancing pleasure of Rim residents and others at the annual Black and White Ball Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino. Brush pit open

The Regional Payson Area Project… for a Fire Wise Rim Country (RPAP) will be staffing a free brush drop-off at Blattner Pit, located at Milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.

Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 22.

All RPAP free drop-off locations are for brush, leaves, pine needles, trimmings and other vegetative materials only.

See a movie, help food drive

A free screening of “Yogi Bear” at the Sawmill Theatres will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 22.

Admission is at least two cans of food for the Payson Area Food Drive.

Organizing for creative people

Do you need help getting organized? A free workshop titled “Organizing for Creative People” will take place from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 22 at Payson’s Home Depot store.

Arizona Press Women is partnering with Home Depot to provide tips for organizing an office, artist’s studio or hobby workspace. Local writers, photographers, artists and other creative people can learn some new organizing tips and see products that can help save space and allow you to have more time to work on enjoyable projects. 

The event is free but seating is limited. Reserve a space by calling (928) 468-9269. 

Dinner benefit

The Payson United Methodist Health Ministry is sponsoring a chili and cornbread dinner from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 22. The dinner will also include salad and beverage for $6 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Tickets can be purchased at the church office from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday or at the door.

The event is to help support staffing of a parish nurse, monthly blood pressure screenings, and other cutting edge health care programs for the congregation and community.

Celtic history presentation

A free presentation on Celtic history will be made from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 22 at East West Exchange, 100 N. Tonto St., Payson.

Learn about Celtic history and migrations and perhaps what clan you are descended from in this informational presentation.

Finish the evening with a Celtic concert by Vyktoria Pratt-Keating from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

For the concert, there is a suggested donation of $10.

Benefit dinner

The Payson Elks will have a benefit for the Elks National Foundation on Saturday, Jan. 22. The benefit features a spaghetti dinner, with cocktails at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m.

There will be entertainment throughout the evening. Roger Williams will perform during the cocktail hour; Tim Maas will present dinner music; Roger Williams and guests will perform from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and Dr. Jass and the Heart Beats will entertain from 7:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. with traditional Dixie, rhythm and blues, and swing music. The cost is $8 per person. The Elks will welcome guests.

The Lodge is located at 1206 N. Beeline Highway.

Jan. 23 Sunday

Bed linen sale

A bed linen sale to benefit the Mogollon Health Alliance will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, Jan. 24 in the main lobby of the Payson Regional Medical Center.

All sizes are $29.

Proceeds from the sale will go to support the many programs and scholarships offered by the Mogollon Health Alliance.  For more information, call (928) 472-2588.
