The members of Kiwanis, Optimists, Rotary and the Payson High School STUGO (student government) and Drama Club invite Rim residents and visitors to attend the Lip Sync Concert Saturday, Feb. 26 at the high school auditorium. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased from members of the participating clubs, Payson High School Studio Theater, East West Exchange, MoJoe’s Café, Oasis Christian Book Store, the Payson Public Library and Payson Roundup. The tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for youth — a $2 discount is offered on the prices if bought before Feb. 26. All proceeds will be used for continuing educational scholarships. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 6:45 p.m. In addition to the event and silent auction, there will be a 50-50 raffle. RCMS rummage sale for student trip

The Rim Country Middle School is hosting a community rummage sale in the cafeteria from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 29 and Sunday, Jan. 30.

The rummage sale is the last event to help raise money to send 40 students to Washington, D.C. over spring break.

Donations of items for the rummage sale are still being accepted. To donate items, call (928) 478-1581.

Those interested in sponsoring a student to go to Washington, D.C. can use their Credit for Kids dollars; contact RCMS for further information, (928) 474-4511.

Brush pits open

This coming weekend, the Regional Payson Area Project… for a Fire Wise Rim Country (RPAP) will be staffing free brush drop-off points at the following locations, weather permitting:

The Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 29. Blattner Pit is located at Milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.

The Pine Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 30. The Pine Pit is located .7 of a mile east of Highway 87 on Control Road, south of Pine.

Winter Carnival

There will be a Community Winter Carnival from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 at the LDS Church, 913 S. Ponderosa St. Admission is two cans of food.

There will be free games for children, a magician show along with a play starring Woody the PAFD mascot and the wolf. Children can get their picture taken with Woody free, courtesy of Walgreens. Hot dogs will also be provided.

Eddie Armer book signing

Eddie Armer will be signing copies of the first printing of his book “The Silent Winds of the West” at Bootleg Alley Antiques & Art, 520 W. Main St. on Saturday, Jan. 29 from noon to 3 p.m. In addition, Eddie will perform songs from his CD which will also be available. 

Come on down and visit with one of Payson’s favorite storytellers. 

Tickets still available for Black and White Ball

Payson’s black tie event of the year, the annual Black and White Ball is Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m., dancing and silent auction will follow the dinner.

Presented by the Mogollon Health Alliance, the event raises money for area patients undergoing and dialysis treatment who may need some extra financial assistance.

Tickets are still available for $200 per person and table sponsorships are $1,500 per table of eight. Contact the MHA office at (928) 472-2588 for more information.

Open House at Payson United Methodist Church

The Payson United Methodist Church invites the public to a Community Open House from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 30 to get to know the church’s new pastor, Rev. Javier Olivares, Jr.

Plan to arrive around 2 p.m. to “mix and mingle” and then at 2:30 p.m. there will be a short musical program, “Rev. Javier’s Journey to Payson.”

Light refreshments will be available after the musical featuring both Mexican and American desserts and snacks.

Concert in Star Valley

The Star Valley Southern Baptist Church will present a concert of praise and encouragement featuring Phil Dickey at 6 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 30.

The church is at 4180 E. Highway 260, Star Valley, at the corner of Highway 260 and Orion.

Phil has shared inspirational music for more than 30 years in churches and at other gatherings throughout Arizona, Utah and California, as well as overseas while serving in the U.S. Navy.

A native of Corvallis, Ore., he has been in Arizona for many years and now makes his home in Payson. The Vietnam veteran majored in business at Phoenix College, where he also studied music.
