Little League officer Felicia Moore wants parents to know that registration for upcoming play will be held in March and April rather than January and February as it has been in previous years.
“We think by doing this it will help with the season turnout, and the weather is much better,” said Moore.
The new registration dates are March 5, 8 and 9 at Rim Country Middle School.
Hours on March 5 will be 9 a.m. to noon and on March 8 and 9 hours are 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
For those who wish to register earlier, it can be done online at www.sports fee.com.
Following registration, tryouts for boys and girls will be held April 2 on the Kiwanis fields at Rumsey Park, and opening day will be April 30. “This will extend our season into mid-June,” said Moore.
Another change in the league involves assignment to teams. In previous years, softball major league players remained on the same team until moving up a division. However, this year, all girls must try out and will be redrafted.
Also for the upcoming season, coaches are needed for both baseball and softball.
Moore is also reminding parents of baseball players that Dec. 31, 2010, Little League International placed a moratorium on the use of composite bats in major divisions and below.
To see if any composite bats have received waivers and can be used in league play, log on to www.little league.org.
