It’s time to write an annual plea asking the city fathers to cancel the 4th fireworks display.
Circumstances are very different this year with wildfires burning throughout the state and weeks of extreme weather-related fire danger.
According to an article in The Arizona Republic, “Tim Hill, president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Arizona said he can’t imagine why any city or town wouldn’t ban fireworks use.”
At last report on the Willow Fire, a relatively small fire, cost was nearly a million dollars. The state has asked firefighters from all over the country to help; our resources are stretched to the limit!
Tourism will cease to be if our forests and mountains are nothing but blackened ruins and our wildlife gone.
City officers should cancel the fireworks display for the welfare of all of our citizens, tourists and wildlife.
Take whatever funds are involved, whether tax dollars or donations, and use them for something lasting or productive.
