Make plans to get down to Young between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., Saturday, July 16 for Pleasant Valley Days Quilt Show XI. The theme this year is “Family Memories.”

Everyone in Young and the surrounding area is invited to dig into their closets, boxes and trunks to see what they can find.

The sponsors are looking for anything that will help share family histories, such as quilts, wall hangings, clothing, pictures and other memorabilia. Quilts can be any size or shape and other contributions could be anything from an infant’s baptism dress to Grandpa’s Colt 45.

Dresses, hats, bonnets and aprons are all possibilities as well. The items do not have to be fancy, they just should be interesting and participants need to be prepared to share some information to show a connection to their family.

There will be glass-enclosed cases available for display.

Start bringing your quilts and things in as soon as possible in order to get the paperwork completed and things ready for display to avoid total confusion before the parade. Call with any questions.

All quilts and projects need to be brought to Braswell’s Chuckwagon by Thursday, July 14. Entry forms are available now. Forms should be completed and attached to each quilt. Last year there were 125 quilts on display inside and outside the shop. There were also dresses on mannequins, pioneer bonnets and unfinished quilts among the finished quilts.

There is no fee for entering, but if any contributor would like to volunteer, please ask to be put on the schedule.

Help is needed to get things put up before or on the day of the show and during the show while guests are enjoying the quilts also after the show to carefully take down quilts, especially ones that were displayed outside.

“I hope many of you are hard at work getting your quilt blocks ready for the Arizona Centennial Quilt we are making to celebrate Arizona’s 100 years of statehood,” said Carol Braswell, who is coordinating the exhibit for Pleasant Valley Days.

“Several blocks are already here and I’m hoping many more will be here by July 16.

Anyone can participate; call (928) 462-3661 for details.

Blocks can be 6-1/2 inches to 12-1/2 inches and can be sent with a $5 fee to complete the quilt to the address below. Deadline for entering your quilt blocks is Aug. 31. Funds raised go to the Pleasant Valley Fire Department.

Quilt block entries should be mailed to Carol Braswell, c/o Braswell’s Chuckwagon, Box 183, Young, AZ 85554.
