Moose Lodge events

The Women of the Moose meet at 6 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the lodge.

The lodge has a Thursday Fish Fry from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and weekly dinner specials are available.

A Course in Miracles

A Course in Miracles study group meets in Payson from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesdays; and from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Mondays. For information, call (928) 478-6928.

PAL hosts potter

Mary Lavan will be the guest speaker at the July 19 meeting of the Payson Area Art League. She is a studio potter living and creating in Pine, Ariz. Using a variety of wheel throwing and hand building techniques she creates a very unique line of functional and decorative pottery.

She launched Just Mare Pottery in October 2007 on ETSY - an online marketplace for handcrafted items. She will be presenting information on ETSY and how to set up a store in this unique online marketplace. Check out her ETSY shop at to get an idea of what it’s all about and then come to the meeting armed with questions. Lavan has been very successful with ETSY and has some great tips and information to share.

She is a member of the Payson Art League, The Potters Council of the American Ceramic Society and the ETSY Mud Team.

PAL meets Tuesday, July 19 at Rim Country Health & Retirement Community, 807 W. Longhorn Road. Social time and a show & share session is at 6:30 p.m., with the presentation at 7 p.m. The public is welcome.

New Hope Grief Support Group

The New Hope Grief Support Group is for those who have lost a spouse. It meets from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, Payson.

Unity of Payson and Daily Word Readers

Celebrate Unity of Payson, which is now an official church affiliated with Unity Worldwide Ministries. Structured Sunday Unity Services are planned to commence this fall, in the meantime, the public is invited to attend these continuing events:

Democratic Club to meet Wednesday

The Democratic Club of Northern Gila County will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 20 at the Rim Country Heath & Retirement Community meeting room located in the middle of the quad apartments (west end of campus), 807 W. Longhorn Road, Payson.

The guest speaker will be Gerry Bailey, executive director of Time Out, Inc. She will be reviewing the accomplishments of the organization and plans for the future and how club members can help.

There will be reports from each of the officers and leaders of the Rim Country Democratic Women’s Club and Gila County Democrats.

Membership annual dues are only $5 and can be paid at this meeting. Membership is required to vote on club business.

Payson Tea Party

Scripture study

A non-denominational, in-depth expository scripture study is held at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays at Uptown Espresso, 612 N. Beeline Highway, Payson.

Republican Club will meet Monday

The Rim Country Republican Club will meet Monday, July 25 at Tiny’s Family Restaurant. The speaker this month will be Hank Marquardt, firearms instructor. “The Importance of Being Able to Protect Yourself” is the topic of Marquardt’s presentation.

Members and quests will gather at 11 a.m. to order lunch and socialize. The business meeting begins at 11:30 a.m., and at noon Marquardt will speak.

Payson Area Singles planning activities

This group has no dues, no elections, and no couples.

The Tuesday Morning Breakfast Bunch meets at Tiny’s Restaurant every week at 9 a.m. to visit, play 50-50 and plan future activities.

Members are invited to attend the Elks Lodges Sports Dinner at 4 p.m., Sunday Aug. 21. There is also a Cliff Castle bus trip coming up in August.

Plan ahead for Sept. 3 and the group’s Second Annual Potluck and Chili Contest at the Tonto Apache Youth Center. The Senior Circle has invited members to join its luxury bus trips: Aug. 6, The Broadway Palms Dinner Theater in Mesa; and Sept. 17, three days in San Diego.
